Grace Forbes - Friday, April 2
Grace is in California tonight, racing what I believe to be her first-ever 10K on the track. The remainder of both track and field teams will be at the University of Houston tomorrow.
Rachel Johnson, who ran for Baylor, and who is now the track and field/cross country coach at Liberty University, will be trying for the Olympic qualifying standard of 31:25 (about 5:04/mile for 6.2 miles).
A safe time for Grace to be among the top 32 in the West at the end of the season would be about 33:30 (about 5:24/mile).
To watch it live, go on Instagram to @soundrunning and click on "College Invite". Women's 10K is scheduled for 10:00 CDT (8:00 PDT).

RE: Grace Forbes - Friday, April 2
Grace is the first runner listed for her 10K event on the Sound Running College Invite website:
The website says it's being run in Irvine, Calif. But I didn't see any specific track mentioned.
Good luck, Grace!!

About halfway - on about 33:20 pace right now. Conditions are great 60° and no wind, low humidity.

In 2019 - the last outdoor season, that time would have been 6th nationally.

I couldn't even run a single 5K at either of those splits in high school...probably explains why my stint on the varsity XC team was short-lived

The average age of those ahead of her is between 26 and 27.

Wow, congrats. That's throwing down the gauntlet.
So, she beat everyone? And is the Olympic standard 31:25 (which you said in post #1) or 32:25? By crushing the field, is she the only one who qualified? Or was she paced for a bunch of it? I didn't follow along, so wasn't sure how it played out tactically for her.

The standard to be able to participate in the USA Olympic Trials is 32:25.00. The standard to be eligible for the Olympic Games is 31:25.00.
Here's a hypothetical situation (that's occurred several times):
In the USA Trials:
The 1st and 2nd finishers in the 10K ran slower than 31:25 in the race, but have run faster than that over the past couple of years. They will go to the Olympics. Finishers 3 and 4 obviously did not run the Q time, and have never done so. But finisher 5 has hit that mark in the recent past, so she will be the 3rd American representative in Tokyo.
Qualifying for the 10,000 meters occurs from January 1, 2019 to April 5, 2020 and from December 1, 2020 to June 29, 2021.
There's also the IAAF World Rankings pathway, but I don't want to get into the weeds on that.
