Wow, that's some comeback for him. He hasn't played in the majors since 2015 and that was just 1 game. And he's now 34.

He's not on this list: https://thegamehaus.com/mlb/tampa-bay-ra...021/03/31/
This article projects him as a left-fielder at AAA-Durham (NC): https://www.draysbay.com/2021/3/27/22343...nco-patino
Quote:Left field: Tristan Gray
Gray hasn’t played outfield since college, but he has appeared out there briefly during spring training. The Durham infield will be crowded, but his bat is probably still interesting enough that they’ll try to get him in the lineup as much as they can. He batted just .225 in Double A in 2019, but he slugged 17 homers with a high walk rate. He played 12 games in an independent league in 2020.

Confirmed. He got the last roster spot: https://www.pinstripealley.com/2021/3/31...k-reliever

RE: 2021 MLB Opening Day
Chicago Cubs purchase contract of Lexington Legends and former Reds pitcher Tony Cingrani
Quote:The Cubs signed Tony Cingrani to a minor league contract earlier this week, per an announcement from the Lexington Legends of the Atlantic League. The southpaw had been pitching for the independent club since May.
Cingrani appeared in the big leagues every year from 2012-18. He tossed 104 2/3 innings of 2.92 ERA/3.31 SIERA ball for the Reds in 2013 but struggled the following season before moving to the bullpen by 2015. Cingrani issued far too many walks over his first couple seasons as a reliever but eventually dialed in his control. Between 2017-18, he tossed 65 1/3 innings of 4.41 ERA ball between the Reds and Dodgers, but his lofty 32.5% strikeout rate and tiny 6.6% walk percentage suggested additional upside.
Cingrani played for the Dodgers in 2017 and 2018, when he last pitched in the Majors before suffering a shoulder injury. He allowed just one run over five innings for the Los Angeles during the 2017 postseason.
Unfortunately, Cingrani required season-ending surgery to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder before he threw a pitch in 2019. While he reportedly drew interest late in the 2019-20 offseason, he ultimately didn’t wind up signing anywhere during the lost minor league campaign. After a two-month stint in indie ball, Cingrani has worked his way back into the affiliated ranks. He has been assigned to Triple-A Iowa, where he’ll be on hand as lefty relief depth.

Here's a story about Cingrani's pickup published last Monday (June 28): https://www.bleachernation.com/cubs/2021...ague-deal/
Quote: ... You can presume that the Cubs are bringing in Cingrani this year to see if he can be competitive almost immediately. He’ll get time in the minor league system so the Cubs can work with him and monitor his performance against affiliated bats (presumably Triple-A Iowa), and then if there’s a need in the big league bullpen and a spot on the 40-man roster, maybe he gets the call.
The Cubs right now have more big-league-caliber options at Triple-A than they can actually use, which, hey, is a great thing. But the reality is that injury issues can pop up and snowball quickly, and given how heavily the big league bullpen has been used, there’s no reason not to bring in additional arms that might contribute in the right circumstances. Cingrani won’t be taking innings away from any prospects, and if he’s healthy and has re-unlocked what made him so great with the Dodgers in 2017 (2.79 ERA and 1.86 FIP over 19.1 second half innings (and another 5.0 postseason innings of 1.80-ERA ball)), heck yeah give him a look.
Bonus: Cingrani is originally from the Chicago area, so you get that extra pulling-for-the-hometown-guy vibe.
The Bixbys must be very happy! :-)
FYI, here's a link to Cingrani's Iowa Cubs page: https://www.milb.com/iowa/schedule/2021-07

What has happened to Rendon this year? He must be injured.

He historically has gotten off to slow starts and then heated up after the all-star break. He's actually started to heat up the past week.

RE: 2021 MLB Opening Day
I know he's only hitting around .205 for the Rangers, who are terrible this year, but anyone seen the mustache on Holt?
Rangers have lost 12 in a row, second-longest losing streak in franchise history, and were up 5-2 on equally terrible Arizona at home, but now 'zona has got it to 5-4 in 8th.
ETA: holt ground out in the b8. Nick Ahmen flies out to right to end it in the T9. Rangers break their losing streak by winning 5-4 over Diamondbacks.

It looks like he started growing it in Boston ...
... but from your photo, and this one from April, it clearly had grown on him.
However, looking at this photo, taken last Friday (July 23), it looks like Brock's shaved it off:

JT Chargois is on the mound for the Mariners in the T6 vs the Astros scored his afternoon.
His WHIP is less than 1. Impressive!

Well today won’t help his WHIP. JT gives up 2 runs on 3 hits in 1/3 of an inning. Stros offense is stroking it today. 6-0 Stros in the 6th.

Now 8-3, Astros. 2 of Seattle's 3 came on a HR by Abraham Toro, one of the guys they sent to Seattle to get Graveman.
