He threw the Memphis football program under the bus a few times. The biggest one is when he revealed Coach Hardaway opening up the courts for Hampton to practice, during the COVID shut down. He threw the football program under the bus a couple of times.

And, Giannotto let the "news" spread" through his old employers, Washington Post. And, Washington Post gave it to all the other outlets.

I DON'T TRUST GIANNOTTO PERIOD!!!

I with the local media would fire him!!

I was out on Giannotto the second he started throwing a fit about Penny's introductory press conference being open to the public.

Probably because it's called paternity leave, for one.

Touché but the point remains. All the dad does is get in the way.

What the hell are you talking about?

Are you the guy who can't cook your own dinners or can't do laundry, too?

That was my dad.

Different strokes for different folks.

That has nothing to do with different strokes. The circumstances were different.

I’ll say. Stay at home moms were still common into the 70s (not that I had one). Companies were still trying to figure out maternity leave. The paternity leave headache hadn’t come along yet.

I turned off 92.9 before Covid started including their Twitter feeds. I just got tired of their negativity. It's all opinion based and most of their opinions stink.

Absolutely. I quit them over a year ago. And am glad I did.

Once you give up on our local radio crew, Memphis Tiger sports become SO MUCH BETTER!! GP and John Martin only add drama. Calkins and Jason Smith are a little better, but I don't miss em. None of them can break down the game (any sport actuallY). They provide Kardashian style sports news.

Awwww, that is cute. Went from telling the Memphis Tigers they should turn down the NIT and that it means nothing to doing an about-face and congratulating them on Twitter.

This John Martin fella, I tell y'all ... he's something else.

This is why you don't turn down the NIT. For one, Memphis was not in a position to puff its chest and say the tournament is beneath us. Winning the NIT opened eyes across the country on how good this team was at season's end. I had at least a dozen friends message me as the final was being played. Beyond Penny, they didn't know a thing about this team. Around here, it's Michigan and (Izzo's hometown of Iron Mountain) Michigan State. Wisconsin, too, as I'm three miles from that border. Always promote the program because you never know who's watching and might think about coming to Memphis.

RE: John Martin - heel, Mike Miller lap-boy, or straight-talker?
Just listened to Monday's J&J segment where they took callers. Guys were giving it to Martin and he simply could not take it. He cut the segment short, and I think he went and cried during the commercial break. One caller summed it up best by saying Martin has been half-in, half-out since Miller left. Nailed it. Martin claimed he's 100% in, but you can tell he's not. Picture GP jumping up & down when Chalmers hit the shot. GP swears he's "in for his alma mater". But his hate for Cal was greater. With Martin, his love of Miller is greater. So he wants to see Memphis fail without Miller. He may not even realize it, but it's obvious.

Yep. And wait till Mike gets a college job. We will never hear the end of it. Martin probably hoped that Miller would get the job. Penny looks like he's in it to win it. But Martin is trying too hard to be a contrarian. I hate the snide shots that he takes but he shot them at Mike too. Of course we don't want an NIT championship but we rejoiced to see the team playing well and the best they have played since the Cal era. We are happy to have the hope that this team revealed. He should just Shut up, be happy

what else did he say? I'm not going to pay his salary by listening but am interested in how he defended saying that we should not accept the NIT

That show came on while I was driving. I didn’t listen, but before I could punch the off button he mentioned this thread. He quickly added he hadn’t read it, but... I guess someone read it to him.

All the 92.9 shows are lazy. "Let's have one of the hosts from an earlier show call in for a segment and call them a legitimate guest." Unless, the earlier show happens to be hosted by folks who work for a rival newspaper, then they can't mention them.

I miss Vernon.

Newspaper guys have to sell papers ... Radio guys need those ratings. Give it a rest, these guys got families to support.

Vinny Verno was the best....I'd literally carve out time in the day to go sit on the toilet and turn on the radio around the time Vinny's pick of the weeks came on. 5 star golden lock of the year! I wish he would come back.
