RE: Elon game.
So now the question is “Will JMU be able to play next week?” They had 28 known positives at last public statement, and there could be more now.

If JMU can’t play, do W&M and Villanova play each other? Both of their games would be postponed. (assuming JMU-WM is postponed again)

Before someone says “it’s Southern conference only games”, UR-UD was almost a matchup this week, due to JMU being postponed.

That 28 number included all contact tracing quarantiners, I believe. Don’t think actual infections is anywhere close to that number.

Definitely anxiously waiting to see about the game though!

Imoh is impressive! Why didn't he play in the second half (until near the end)? The Tribe was only up 14-3 at halftime. If the answer is to give other guys reps ...why bother? Are we gunning for the playoffs or not? Always play your best guys. His stats show that he is clearly the best guy out there. If they played him in the third quarter then they could have rested him for the whole fourth quarter because of the large lead....

Too many turnovers. Can't do that against good teams.

Too many penalties. 11 for 108 yards. Too many STUPID penalties like taunting or excessive celebrating. London needs to clean that up asap.

Looking forward to Imoh running amok next week against JMU (if they show up).

The penalty stat reminded me to check out something relating to the Buccaneers turnaround from 2019 to 2020. Brady obviously didn't hurt, ditto for some new talent and great speed at important positions. They were +8 in turnovers in 2020 vs -13 in 2019. One other development was that the Bucs banished the penalty clown show that had set up shop in their locker room for multiple seasons.

Accepting that penalties reside in the province of subjectivity, the Bucs' 2020 numbers were a huge improvement over 2019. They were flagged 115 times (41 pre-snap) over 20 games and were net positive 376 yards vs their opponents in 2020. In 2019 in just 16 games they were flagged 158 times (56 pre-snap) and were 136 net yardage losers. Reducing self-inflicted wounds cuts down on both down and distance and field position head winds for teams with better discipline. Hopefully experience will help as a young team matures.

Interesting about the penalties and how some are "pre-snap". Those are bad --- but the ones really bugging me at W&M are the "post-play" penalties, the ones that actually occur after the play is over. The taunting, unsportsmanlike conduct, excessive celebration type penalties that show a lack of discipline. That is on the coaching staff and it is up to them to show the team that they won't put up with it. Personally, I think London doesn't mind it and is willing to put up with it in order to build the team camaraderie that is also a crucial element to winning. I prefer building camaraderie without being bad sports. JL was good at that.

I know Hollis is our starter & needs as many reps as possible in this new offense. We are and should game plan to win, but I'd love to see some of the QB bullpen and what they can do in this spring "practice season"

This is the crux of the matter. Some folks say that this spring is a practice season. I think that depends on what the teams' expectations were going into the season. I don't think anyone at NDSU or SHSU or JMU ever looked at this season as anything other than another chance to win a national championship. In other words, talking about a "practice season" (not you, Mr. J) is a cop-out; words from coaches who weren't expecting anything positive this year anyway. Look at VMI: currently 4-0 for the first time since 1981. I don't know if they thought about a practice season at the beginning of the spring but I would certainly bet that they are not talking about it now.

So how about W&M try to make the playoffs (with its best lineup) and only default back to a "practice season" when it is apparent that there will be no playoffs. That should not happen until there is at least two losses on the record.

Malachi had a heck of a game and has great burst, looks like he is the new starter with the more established RBs opting out. But we have to give credit to both the OLine (giving Hollis enough time to throw) and DLine (actually getting pressure/TFLs/and Sacks) all game, they absolutely dominated up front and it showed. Not sure how Elon was leading JMU but nonetheless a great win for the Tribe.

Anybody know when we will find out if JMU is on or postponed?

Not sure on the chronology, but I think Elon is down a QB or two. Perhaps their better QBs suited up against JMU.

They actually started their 4th team guy because they weren't happy with the guy who had played against JMU for the whole game and most of the game against the Spiders. But brought the 3rd team guy back in for a large part of our game.

Their QB1 is really good. Their #2 is ok. Not sure he's much better than Martin (QB3).

And Martin was the guy who started against JMU. I actually think JMU is down right now. I think the best thing that happened to them was postponing us and Richmond back to back.

I must be behind on the news here. Is that what's happened? Wright and Lester are sitting out the spring season now as well?

Could be but their QB had nothing to do with the 31 points we put on the scoreboard, the massive holes and bursts of speed from Imoh or the Tribe defense showing up in the Elon backfield.

Did they have known injuries coming into the game? I knew Lester was banged up but not sure about Wright. Opted out probably wasn't the right term as I'm not sure why they didn't play. Nonetheless Malachi really showed out and it helps when you get a couple of Linemen back (w/ Evers etc.)

Let's wait for a player or W&M to break news on a player's personal interests.

As bad as we've been, not practicing for 2 weeks certainly won't have helped anything.

We're VERY down right now. Lost two AA's on defense to UVA after fall was canceled as well as 3 other starters to injury. Also lost our AA RT to injury earlier this spring. QB play has been horrible. Our running backs are strong, but they can't do much with a banged up OL and no passing threat. Defense has been dominating at times, but has yet to put anything consistent together.

Who knows who JMU will be able suit up on Saturday.

Get your licks in now. We looked bad in our first 3 games, and you'd be crazy to think the COVID pause was beneficial.

What I meant was they weren’t playing by well and were on they way to a loss. Maybe they can’t snap back now.

According to the latest Tribe Scribe article on the Tribe Athletics website, London says that both running backs need to be cleared by the medical staff in order to play and as of yesterday they had not been cleared. Same holds true for Zach Burdick.
