They really weren't that good.
They got lucky - in a couple of games and with scheduling.
They never met the eye test for me.
Although I admit, that was an unpopular take - given the lovefest everyone had with their new coach.
Cincinnati fans definitely did not love him from day one. It might not have been at Tubby level in our case, but it was close.

This guy just threw Brannen under the bus!... I just hope this thing doesn't get worse.. players accusing Brannen of racism or verbal abuse.
Brannen has a good resume.. got to Cincy after a few appearances with Northern Kentucky in the NCAA.. Another player just came out defending Branner though

A good resume? For a school like Cincinnati? Hardly. Interesting that his successor at Northern Kentucky is Darrin Horn. Horn made the Sweet 16 at Western Kentucky, then took over at South Carolina and had a really good first season. It seemed like he was an up and comer and would be a good hire, but instead, he flamed out.
You never know.

I was talking about Wichita.
But I agree that there have been Brannen detractors from day one. Although, the national guru-guys seemed to love the hire - while at the same time they thought Cronin would struggle at UCLA. He may still, but doing okay right now.

My bad. The Wichita hire was no lose for them, the same way that Silverfield was for us in the short term. Even less so, because he didn't get the job full time right away.

6 players this year might not be as crazy as in the past. I'm afraid Free Agency is going to be wild this year.
But back before Tubby accomplished this, Josh set the record at 6 (2015). And it was absolutely not the norm back then. It's also when Pastner lost his remaining fence-sitting fans (raises hand).

I just feel like they were pressured to hire him due to the national narrative. And I think the national narrative was largely driven by how many media members hated Marshall. When we played them, they looked very poorly coached.

And don't forget 'the wife'. Getting thrown out of games and stuff. She was a character!

RE: Something is happening with Cincinnati basketball
Brannen inherited a pretty good team. They tied for AAC #1 last season. They lost 3 good players off that team (Jarron & Jaevin Cumberland & Tre Scott). The new players this year were not that great. Keith Williams was supposed to be "star" to replace Jarron Cumberland, but he underachieved this year.
Having UCLA come in and buy Mick Cronin 2 yrs ago was a blow, but Cincinnati has a winning tradition. They need to be better, just like us & Temple.

Yeah, a 7 game win streak with 5 of the 7 at home and UCF and Tulane on the road. Beating Houston at home and not playing us again helped their cause.

It was so frustrating watching the Houston game. Wichita was no better or worse than they have been in the last couple of weeks, and how they were against us. Just an above average team that caught lightning in a bottle. We would beat them by 20 again on a neutral court.

5 players transferring after this season wont be unusual with the waiver on sitting out. We could have that many. Probably not but its not impossible.
