If true, who feels good about Cunningham running point on hiring a new coach? Lots of variables with this situation.

A troll account tweeted that he was fired, but that’s not where this smoke is coming from. Given how quiet both sides have been it definitely adds up.

If it is true then the longer it drags on, the worse for the program.

Where is it coming from then? Chad didn't seem to think there was anything going on. Unless it was deleted.

Wasn't March 31 the date when the buyout goes down?

I believe the buyout would go down for him to leave by $1.5M after March 31st...the institution's buyout is 75% of his remaining contract, regardless of date of termination.

I thought that was next year, but I could be wrong.

Without sharing too much from 247 out of respect for Chad, there's still nothing concrete. Seems like everything is still being driven by speculation at this point.

Exactly. Brannen should have been either fired within 72 hours of the defections, or the AD should have made an announcement that "we are disappointed that these young men have chosen not to remain part of our Bearcat team, but we wish them well in the future. We remain confident in Coach Brannen's ability to lead the program through unprecedented challenges." Just letting things simmer is the worst of all possible worlds.

Could be getting my dates messed up for sure...but the general line of speculation remains, because the institution's buyout doesn't change at all, it's always going to be 75% of remaining cash.

Just so I understand;

If UCLA were to hire CJB, they would pay UC $1.5 million.

If UC were to fire CJB without cause, they would owe 75% of the remaining contract.

Is that correct?

Yes this year for other schools to hire him away would be $1.5M after March 31st and 75% of his remaining contract for us to buy him out (which would be around $4.5M based on date of signing and how much money the total contract was valued at according to the details a few years ago).

https://www.cincinnati.com/story/sports/...523434002/

Interesting thing to note, he would receive a $1M check if he is retained past March 31st next year that is also part of a buyout if he isn't...so add $1M to the 75% of remaining contract if he is fired.

Don't you love how ridiculously protected coaches are from any loss if they're absolutely horrible? lol

No, the buyout would be reduced BY $1.5M not TO $1.5M.

I believe the buyout this year would be like $2.5M this year for other schools to hire him away and 75% of his remaining contract for us to buy him out (which would be around $4.5M based on date of signing and how much money the total contract was valued at according to the details a few years ago).

Thank you for the clarification.

I corrected myself, my interpretation of the contract was wrong.

At this point, it's fair to speculate that March 31st, five days away, is a critical date and that negotiations are underway on details of a buyout that will remain confidential and will attempt save money for UC and save face for all involved.

Or not.

But I believe by next Wednesday we'll have some answers, at least directionally, about where this program is going. At this point, the AAC championship game seems like it happened months ago.

Oh, and no idea what the budget voodoo might be but I suspect UC received a buyout for Mick's contract and then paid Brannen less than Mick was making. I don't recall UC owing NKU any buyout dollars. Anyone have more insight on that?

Contract language stipulated that UC would pay NKU $500,000 for Brannen's buyout in April 2019...though like you said, that could've just been a roll-over from the UCLA payout.
