At the end of the transfer period, I think there will be some people regretting their decision. There are a finite number of spots and some of them will be filled with incoming freshmen.

Hopefully one of the two can recover as quick as WSU did.

Given what I've learned of the situation from some folks I trust, I'm a little more optimistic that UC can recover quicker. A lot depends on how we handle this transfer season obviously, but while the coach obviously has a big part of any relationship issues, it appears the players may be carrying a decently heavy burden in the UC situation.

I was worried Brannen had some toxic personality, but it apparently was just a bit of neglect and lack of understanding of their COVID lifestyle. Not enough work/life balance per se and add a heap of immaturity from freshman. That's not good, but it's not some repeatable issue.

I don't think a conference championship is a reasonable expectation for us next year, and this definitely set us back. I just don't think it destroys us down to a new coach full rebuild as I was starting to worry about.

Good to hear. We got lucky with how the WSU situation ended up. With USF's situation bubbling up, it would be great if Cincy's situation was not as bad as it looked.

I think it speaks volumes that the freshman left, but the sophomores & DeJulius in large stayed. Brannen clearly handled the COVID impact on the season very poorly, though it was a tough spot given such a young team with no older player leadership to set the tone (Keith is obviously the one you would expect, but it's really not his personality at all to do that kind of stuff).

I don't want to let Brannen off the hook here, he clearly needs to own his failure and the impact it's had on the program. But the positive spin appears to boil down to that Brannen isn't actually a complete a-hole like I was worried might be the issue given that we can't realistically get rid of him this year.

If Tulane can hold serve in the transfer window, I like Hunter's odds to move from 10th to 7th next season. There look to be a lot of basket cases in 2021-22.

Good. This league needs a strong Cincy program. USF concerns me, but Cincy being down for a long period really hurts the league more. Cincy needs to leverage it's brand. Which is one of the reasons WSU was able to weather the last year decently ok.

I wish all well and nobody harm. I think Memphis might lose one or more, as well. Just not until after the NIT.

We have 4. Jeremiah Davenport (stud), David DeJulius, Mika Adams Woods, and Viktor Lahkin (injured freshman center, complete unknown, rated 150ish by 247).

Adding another one today. No idea who though.

I think Tulane and Temple will be much improved next year.

i think after the ncaa tournament in 2 weeks, everything is going to move quickly...

4 players that just entered the portal already have new teams... i think there will be a point where all the transfer realize there is a limited amount of scholarships and start mass committing

new USF/ new Cincy will be revealed in short order...
i also think ecu/tulsa will have players transfer out that arent in the portal yet

Sounds like you guys have a decent core coming back. That might be enough if the people leaving were locker room cancers.. the big question is if the cancers were the players or the coach. In WSUs case we apparently had both lol

,

More grist for the mill ... found this posted on an AAC school's message boards:

"The early guesswork around the American says Tulsa and SMU will likely join Cincinnati and USF in having significant player turnover. That probably puts UCF, Temple and Tulane in line for a jump in preseason predicted finish behind Memphis, Houston and Wichita State. The team to watch is UCF if Dawkins can find or develop a point guard to replace Perry. And then I can see Tulane making a jump if Hunter can keep his guys in place and add some pieces. That guy can coach."

We signed one of the top PGs in the country in Darius Johnson, and also return Tony Johnson, who tore his ACL in our first game this year. We should be fine at PG.

I don’t want to paint too rosy a picture. The problem is both. The coach was an issue, just not nearly to the degree that Marshall was. He has made some pretty stupid errors though. There were clearly a couple of major cancers on the players side (both player and parent) though that tore up that entire class. Like I said, notice the sophomores are staying.

It’s going to be really rough for Brannen to recover from this. But if he gets it right, he still can. If not, we’ll likely be looking for a new coach sooner rather than later.

Are we going to have room for another big? Assuming Jarreau, Gorham, Gresham, and Grimes are gone, next year's roster looks like this:

Guards: Sasser, Shead, Tyson
Wings: Mark, Walker
Bigs: White, Chaney, Roberts, Powell, Armbrester, Francis

You could put Armbrester in the wing category I guess, but he is really an undersized PF. I was thinking CKS would be heavily targeting at least one more wing player, and possibly a combo guard to take some ballhandling pressure off of Sasser and Mark.

Wouldn't he have to sit out a year due to inter conference transfer rules? Even with the NCAA waivers .. i don't think that overrides the conference rules. I believe the only reason Gilbert didn't have to sit out a year is because UCONN left the conference.
