Yeah OK... CUSA has 4 programs ranked at the start of the season. Marshall started the season at #9, Charlotte #12, Kentucky #22 and FIU at #23.
Central Arkansas can go back to the MVC and GA Southern and GA State can apply to the SoCon.
Ok, Marshall is the best team in the conference. Can you throw up the attendance numbers from Marshall's 2019 season on this thread. I can't find them.
Picture a USM men's basketball game in non-Covid times and I imagine you're in the ballpark.
Agreed. We should cut that program too.
What CUSA needs to do is cut FB, bowling, and rifle.... wait...

It probably ranks 5-7 in conferences who play soccer from a competitive standpoint and the number of teams ranked. I mean half of the conference is in the Top 25.
In the last few years ODU, South Carolina and UAB have had some down years. All 3 have been good one time or another since Marshall has been in CUSA. If they ever get back to being a decent teams at the same time then CUSA could be a pretty big soccer power conference.

We definitely don't need Central Arkansas and the two Georgia schools would fit nice geographically but wouldn't add a whole lot competitively. Not enough to justify going above 9.
Ha. There probably isn't any justification to have men's college soccer at all.

When we saw we were getting good and winning we started getting sellouts and SRO games. Soccer is big here with the youth and will translate to morefans with continued success. Same with baseball if we get the stadium built.

Id also put Coach Grassie up against almost any other coach in the NCAA, thats how good I think the guy is. He took over a program that was never consistent, had never made the NCAA Tournament and had only been in the Top 25 one time for one week in the 2001 season. To a team that has been in the Top 25 17 weeks in a row, not only made their 1st NCAA but also got a bye, finished 11th in the nation and a sweet 16 last year. And also started preseason number 9 this year.

Marshall's Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex holds just over 1000 and during most games in 2019 the Vet often referred to as Hoop's Family Field was either 1/2 or 3/4 full in other words 500-750 fans showed up to watch the games.
In Nov 2019 when #15 Kentucky showed up to play #20 Marshall there was 2,032 watched Marshall beat Kentucky 1-0. Three weeks later Marshall hosted a second round NCAA Tournament game against WVU where 2,126 watched Marshall dispatch WVU 2-1.
There were also a lot more people who wanted a ticket but couldn't get one....myself included.

Actually it leaves the Sun Belt with 2 schools after this year.
Appy State dropped men's soccer in Aug 2020
Howard will be moving to the NEC
Central Arkansas will be moving all sports to the ASUN
Coastal Carolina moving to CUSA
That leaves GA State and GA Southern as the only 2 remaining Sun Belt schools playing soccer. And neither school can drop the sport or it would make them Title IX noncompliant.
As I see it both have 2 options 1)Go to the MAC and help them save there autobid as the MAC will only have 5 schools after this year in Akron, NIU, Western Michigan, Bowling Green and WVU or pack up and go to the SoCon with ETSU, Furman. Mercer, UNCG, VMI and Wofford. I guess they could go to the Big South to with Campbell, Gardner-Webb, High Point, Longwood, Presbyterian, Radford, UNC Asheville, USC Upstate and Winthorp. I don't think the SoCon or Big South have an advantage over the other one with competitiveness or prestige, for the most part they both are a 1 bid league.

MAC is def better. They’ve regularly had two bids. Akron alone makes them better. If we could lure them this would be a hell of a conference

I think for right now CUSA will be set with 9 soccer schools, just like football it gives the conference a round robin schedule with plenty of non conference games to schedule.
The MAC is a much better conference I agree. Akron is usually hovering in the Top 25 most years and a lot of time Western Michigan is circling just around the Top 25. Plus both schools would only have to make 3 away games in conference 1 year and 4 the next. But when doing 4 they would either be going to GA State or GA Southern.
With that said both probably fit better in the SoCon or Big South. It isn't like either are a soccer power.
Also Marshall plays Akron Tuesday March 2nd at 4:00 est on ESPN+.

Guess you could depending on the sport most would take up the same resources soccer would. About the only thing I can think of that would be lower in cost is bowling. And I don't know if there is anywhere in or around Stateboro GA to even bowl at.
BTW what happened to UAB soccer, for the longest time UAB was really competitive and then it was like you just fell off a cliff.

Its the scholarship numbers that matter. UAB added women’s bowling, beach volleyball, and synchronized swimming at different points after we added football. The swimming is no more
