MyBB Georgia State @ Troy cancelled
How in the world does this keep happening with Georgia State?

That now makes 9 games that Georgia State has had to postpone or cancel because of COVID protocols.

This one is on Southern. No GSU player has tested positive. Southern had a guy test positive after their loss to GSU Thursday which was why the Saturday re-match was canceled... and now this one.

Our statement in regards to the postponement had nothing about testing positive in it, just that there had been exposure inside the program. That implies to me that the players came into contact with someone and contact tracing shut us down.

This is after we traveled to Georgia State....who had just recently started playing after missing multiple weeks of competition due to Covid issues in their program.

So yea.....I'm wondering what we came into contact with in Atlanta.

Can someone remind me how many conference games GaSt has to play to be seeded in the tournament? If I am not mistaken, they will be seeded 6th if they don't meet this minimum number of games.

FWIW, I have no idea what happened but I'm pretty sure this is the first athletic event of the 2020-2021 sports year cancelled because of Covid on *our* end.

With this postponement they have played 7 games with 5 games remaining. 2 at home vs Troy this weekend, a game at App State next Tuesday, and 2 at South Alabama the following weekend.

The Panthers must play in all 5 games, or they will be automatically seeded 6th, which means the battle for 2nd in the West becomes far more important.

How ironic would it be if we (LR) finish 3rd and GaSt places 6th. The 2 preseason favorites would meet in the first round. I guess 3rd would be pretty optimistic for us right now, but who knows what this crazy season will bring.

the threshold for how many games they need to play will drop because the the average number of games is going down

they need to play 75% of the average in the east to not be relegated to the bottom

That is a good point. If Weather starts knocking off games this weekend, GSU gets a reprieve

The biggest problem is that outside of Texas State and Arkansas State losing 2 games due to Weather and a Covid outbreak in San Marcos, the rest of the West has played a full schedule, which inflates the league's average considerably...

Not on us for last two games. No GSU player tested positive. Rules said contact tracing from GS forced us to shut down again for 7 days.

Again, no practicing until the thursday. No continuity. Lack of preparation. Just gonna be another game we just try to out athletic the opponent and hope for the best. What a disaster of a season.

There's no way someone is testing positive Friday from contact on Thursday. Whoever had it contracted it before they got to Atlanta.

but the 75% average is just in your division so the west having more games shouldn't factor

Georgia State is the one releasing information saying a positive in our program. We stated there was exposure in our program. In fairness contact tracing is almost as bad because of how it escalates.

I'm not really inclined to trust an athletic department who admitted to reading test results incorrectly in the fall and then had a basketball team just miss multiple weeks of activities due to Covid on the team.

Our postponement last weekend is the first sporting event postponed due to Covid issues at Georgia Southern that I'm aware of. Still Gast and Ben Moore are the only ones saying we had a positive.

The Athletic Department didn't read any test wrong. The testing facility did.

RE: Georgia State @ Troy cancelled
Ok I ll clear this up. My information comes from a player on our team. Last Wednesday we tested and had no positives so we went to Atlanta and played GaState Thursday. Friday we tested again and had 1 positive player so we had to cancel Saturday s home game vs Ga State. We certainly wanted to play and had “sold out” the game. Granted a “sell out” right now is only 25 percent capacity but still we had sold all the tickets we could. Who knows how we had 0 positives Wednesday and had 1 Friday but we did. We were supposed to retest everyone today (Monday) but I haven t heard those results.

Even though we are playing games with 6 or 7 players, at least we are playing. And we did get our first win in ATL over GaSt since 1983, thanks to COVID. Fortunately we are all invited to the tournament, so GaSt still gets their chance to get some continuity and pull it together for that.
