Jaylin Hunter PG
As I see it, Jaylin will be the only experience PG coming back next year. Jaylin is a good player, but lacks the scoring ability and quickness (foul shooting) as Curry. My question for any insiders, can Curry play next year due to covid-19 or being post grad ? If not lets hope these freshmen guards know how to shoot 3"s and FT's. But again, JJ doesn't like to play freshman. The way I see it, he has no choice.

This year doesn’t count towards anyone’s eligibility. Curry can come back if he wants to and if ODU wants him to.

I think everyone is granted an extra year due to Covid.

Hutner's game is improving but definitely not as good at getting to or finishing around the basket as Curry. Maybe a better shooter without looking at stats.

I've been wondering about Wade, assuming he is healed and ready to go next year would he get the extra year for Covid AND possibly a medical redshirt?

I think it would be great to have Curry back one more year. Hunter has a nice game, and he will be "the man" in time, but Curry is better at this point IMO.

Hunter will be just fine playing a large role when necessary.

RE: Jaylin Hunter PG
Hunter filling in for Curry for two games, was a big in his development. When he went in last night, I was 'This isn't good'. Then thought about how he ran the show against a better team for two game. Think his passing and shot will be very good, maybe equal to Curry. I don't think his quickness to the rim, will get to Curry's level.

This is a guard oriented team. Having a PG is the least of my worries! We only have about 10 to pick from.

JJ's recruits can compete against mediocrity but will never be Top 50. I will never be satisfied with mediocre teams!

Well, as we have already established (with your criteria), you have not been satisfied with ODU basketball teams going back 2-3 decades. 6-7 teams who would qualify within that timespan does not, and should not, create an expectation of anything other than your "mediocre" status. Heck, only 5 in the last 20 years could maybe step to the plate. Second, this thread was regarding our PG play, nothing to do to how many "6'10" they have".

Is this true for all D1 schools? or just ODU?

Does X come back for another year as well?

All D1 schools. X will have one year of eligibility.

But each player will need to be invited back for that extra year. As we have seen with football, that is not guaranteed.

So where do we stand as far as scholarships with freshman coming in and seniors allowed to stay? Would the scholarship limit allow for all to stay or would something have to give?

RE: Jaylin Hunter PG
Im not sure they have announced it for spring sports but for fall athletes, you can go over the scholarship limit to retain seniors that were granted another year.

This is going to cause some severe logjams though. Coaches will have to decide whether they want the senior to come back, how to fit 15-16 players onto a roster and keep them all happy, and if they would rather play for the future.

This won't only affect freshman, but redshirt freshman and sophomores as well. Just imagine Brady came in knowing he would sit a year behind Green but expecting playing time next year. Well, now Green is granted an extra year, do players want to sit for an additional year?

And all the freshman that have committed to various schools. Do they want to re-evalute based on seniors coming back as well?

This is going to be a very hectic offseason.

If Brady can't win the spot over Green then I'm not worried about it. Thanks for the clarification though.

Brady as a freshman or sophomore isn't better than redshirt senior (5th year) or redshirt/redshirt senior X. Green (6th year). Its just not a realistic expectation.

I feel like we need a thread that just has predictions of the team for next year. I have admittedly been off the board for a while so maybe I haven't seen it, but it seems like a lot of threads (incl the recruiting one) touches on this subject but doesn't go all in on it. Maybe I'll do it..
