Out coached again
Penny is no Frank Haith. He is no Jawan Howard. Two years in a row of overwhelming unforced turnovers is bad coaching. Penny doesn't even have control of timeout huddles. Everyone of his players is talking and no one is listening to him. If he cannot get control of this team he should get out of the business before he completely discredits himself in Memphis.

Also out point guarded again...for a guy who was so great as a player at the spot he's having a hard time keeping them in city or the ones he signs getting them to play well for him.

After the last game he said "the players are too busy arguing with each other during the timeouts, blaming each other, that they dont listen to the next play"
and I saw the same thing happening today.
that is very concerning that he sees that problem and has not corrected it.

RE: Out coached again
Was wondering if the coach had told them to toss the ball as soon as you catch it. Was thinking during time out that would be what i would do. Do not allow them to have a chance to foul and time would expire before the ball goes out of bounds.

Honestly, Pastner and Tubby’s worst teams would wipe the floor with this year’s team.

Doubtful.
I did not like the way either of those guys coached. I didn't care for Pastner, and found Tubby uninspiring. Penny is a home town hero who is letting the home side down. He must decided if he really wants to coach of if he just wants to be called coach. I doubt he does but I wish he would read this board.

So you’d take this year’s team over Pastner’s worst year with:
Shaq Goodwin, Dedric Lawson, KJ Lawson, Markel Crawford, Ricky Tarrant, Kedren Johnson, and Jeremiah Martin?
Or over a Tubby team with:
Mike Parks, Raynere Thornton, Martin, Davenport, and Brewton?
And maybe most importantly, you’d take Penny at the helm?!

3 of Pastners teams would beat this team (JJ years 2-4).
The rest are toss ups or losses. This team wins conference USA
None of Tubbys teams beat this team.

Neither of them started a season 6-5. There is a very good chance that after the 4 games in a week we could end up with a losing record.

Our conference opponents have been Tulsa, Tulane, and USF. Not that different than C-USA. Non-conference— we played tougher teams to make up for a weaker conference in the Pastner days. This team is a sinking ship that is going to take on a lot more water in conference play
This also seems like a team that just can’t handle success. I don’t see them winning straight up against similar competition because they would self-destruct

ive wondered the same. after every turnover, errant pass, score by opposing team.......
you can find someone on our team pouting, pointing, or blaming a team mate.

Now ask yourself is Tulsa, S. Florida and Tulane better than they were 8 years ago.

How many of Tulsa’s players would we bother to recruit?

RE: Out coached again
I believe in Penny even though I think he has a long way to go to becoming a good coach at this level. Having said that, at some point players have to make shots. It looked to me like the new offense was successful in generating some open looks, but until some of our "shooters" start making some, I don't know what else Penny can do.
