No. Laying down bunts is not an automatic. Pitchers pitch to where there defense hitter and even a great bunter is not going to place a good bunt at a high enough rate to change defensive strategy. Think about it; if it were that easy wouldn't people be doing it regularly? In a competitive industry where everyone is looking for an edge no one has adopted this strategy which tells me it's not good strategy.

You at least show it and show that is an emphasis it will change the D. The shift only works because nobody makes an effort to make them uncomfortable running a shift.
It’s bad baseball.
It’s the equivalent of running RDAIV off guard over and over again against an 8 man front and then wondering why the ground game is struggling...

Lefties tend to be super pull heavy. I'm guessing they never had to learn to hit backside, since RF is typically a better place to go anyways. As a lefty you get that favorable match-up 75% of the time, and they have made a living off of sitting dead red and pulling it.
After typing that, I realize that isn't much help Rath. I already typed it up, so I'm posting it anyways.

Lol. All good. I threw my hands up and knew where the MLB game was going when I saw a guy as skilled as Brandon Phillips who consistently looked like the last kid on the playground picked to play when he got a bunt signal. You go watch pregame warmups and they don’t even practice laying them down anymore.
There is a very good reason I watch more college games than MLB games anymore.

and rather quietly...
Not that he'll keep this somewhat small sample pace up, but it's funny how many people gave up on him especially from a power standpoint.

I see the Reds are starting their pre-all star break implosion...
Quote:The San Francisco Giants finished off a four-game sweep of Cincinnati Reds in emphatic fashion, hammering the Reds with season highs of 19 runs and 16 hits, then headed home with the best record in the major leagues.
San Francisco outscored Cincinnati 33-9 in the series that ended with a 19-4 rout.
Something stinks and it ain't in the stands.

Well we gotta play Nick and Da Wink in RF and LF respectively pretty much everyday just to have a chance. Ordinarily, you'd think Senzel's injury would open up some time for him in CF. But Naquin's actually looked solid defensively in CF and has a 121 OPS+ coming into today. I'd try to get Shogo a few starts while Senzel's out, but it's tough to sit Naquin especially with his power.

if he's cool barely platooning i'm all for it because that's some pretty great outfield depth as senzel can't stay healthy. lose some win some lose some.... just keep winning series.' teejay's gotta start at some point

I think they'd prefer to re-look at him as a starter next year and keep him as our go-to utility knife reliever this year. But Hunter and Lodolo are both killing it at AA so we might have to consider either or both before too long.

So outside of the opening week streak of 6 wins in a row, the Reds haven’t managed to win more than 2 in a row all season.

That coincides with the last time they were above .500 - April 21 [9-8]. They're 3-7 over their last ten and 8-12 over their last twenty games.

In fairness to biitchin' about the Redlegs' losing ways, they won their 3rd in a row today to get within two games under .500. Oh, and it was against the Cards. I hate the Cards.

The reality is it is true of most teams, but the Reds in particular seem to have a knack for reversing gears around pretty quickly. Just when you think they might be hopeless (your first post), they turn it around and make you think they may be putting it together (your second post). Maybe a 4 game sweep of the Cards today would be the start of something, but part of me also thinks they are due (doomed?) to take an L. That's baseball I guess.
I feel bad they can't find more time for Shogo, but the OF has been really solid with Naquin and especially Wink and Cast. If they can get the IF healthy the offense could start looking pretty strong. I could live with a guy like Farmer at SS IF we were getting production at the other 3 slots. I still think Suarez, Moose, Senzel and Votto are all capable and India seems to be coming along so the possibility is there if/when they get healthy and/or straightened out.

Have you watched it in the last 10 minutes? The Reds' bullpen is blowing it bigtime.
