He and Beavers played at UConn together. Apparently he had been working on coming here for a while.

I saw somewhere that Tennessee was recruiting him as well. Obviously, UT is not a powerhouse program but they land high-quality recruits so it's not like we were the only major program after him. I don't think the staff would have offered him a scholarship if they didn't think he was going to be a day 1 starter at LT. Hopefully, he plays as advertised, they say he has NFL potential but I guess we will see.

What is our 2 deep looking like on the line right now for next season? I wonder if Metz would fair better at right tackle since he is a really good run blocker.

Centers:
Jake Renfro [Returning Primary Starter]
Jakari Robinson [13 starts at Center]
Zach Hummel (Converted DE from HS)

Guards:
Vincent McConnell [Returning Primary Starter] (Has played at Tackle for us)
Dylan O'Quinn [Returning Primary Starter]
Jeremy Cooper [10 starts at Guard]
Colin Woodside (Could be at tackle)
Marcelo Mendiola
Gavin Gerhardt
Mao Glynn (High 3* '21 commit)
Landon Fickell (Mid 3* '21 commit)

Tackles:
James Tunstall [Potential Starter] (FBS All-American)
Lorenz Metz [10 starts at Tackle]
John Williams
Kobe McAllister (Former State OLman of the Year in his Division in Georgia, FR)
Johnathan Allen (Mountain of a man, FR)
Colin Woodside (could be at guard)
Luke Collinsworth (3*/4* '21 commit)

What about Cody Lamb? Played in every game in 2020 and has been in the program 3-4 years already. I don't know if he's a guard or tackle.

Guard, and for some reason I thought he was done. If not, obviously he'd be in the rotation as a swing guard.

I believe he is still recovering...big injury in high school helped him to a scale breaking weight that they've been trying to cut him down from this fall.

RE: Football Departures - Crowd Source
If Tunstall is as good as advertised and can step in at LT, the offensive line may not take a step back. Say what you will about some of the guys who got passed over this season, but having 7 guys with 10 or more starts at the college level (Tunstall's came in FCS) is a huge plus. We should have depth all over the field. Backup QB may be a slight concern due to inexperience, but there is no lack of talent in the position group.

RE: Football Departures - Crowd Source
I am tempering my expectations with Tunstall. We're replacing a player who was recruited to Michigan with one who went to UConn and then Stony Brook. Our coaches know talent and I trust them but Hudson came in as a highly recruited high schooler transferring from Michigan. I have guarded optimism related to Tunstall but I'm not expecting to see him inserted on the OL next year and perform the way Hudson did against Boston College in the Birmingham Bowl.

To be clear, I dont think he'll be James Hudson...but he could be Darius Harper, or at least better than Metz. If he is either of those things, then I think we're in good shape.

I think we're on the same page. I'd take Harper or Metz performance out of Tunstall too...knowing he can develop as well.

Is there an underclassman in the UC pipeline for offensive line who might emerge sooner rather than later? Obviously, O line is the biggest recruiting challenge most aspiring programs face.

Obviously we have Jake Renfro who was the lynchpin of the OL-turnaround midway through the year IMO, John Williams was on the two-deep, and Kobe McAllister's tape looked very solid (all were true freshmen from the '20 class). In this year's class, I could easily see Mao Glynn or Luke Collinsworth finding their way into a rotation with their raw abilities.

We're going to be really good inside with the production of Renfro an O'Quinn when they ascended into the starting lineup. We shouldn't expect anyone to come in and be James Hudson but we need OT to be solid. We can't have it like the Peach Bowl when Hudson went out and the offense was completely done. Williams sounds like a real talent and was running with the first team for awhile in camp. If Tunstil can be solid we'll be in good shape.

Renfro was impressive and a major upgrade at Center this season. Do we know if he missed the Peach because of injury or just an illness?

Williams is incredibly intelligent as well (was on the Bearcat Honor Roll this fall as an Aerospace Engineering student)...I don't think he'll have a crazy learning curve once he is in there, just need to make sure the physical skills are there first.

What about Jonathan Allen? Was he hurt this year? I don't believe he logged any time. Kind of fell off my radar.

I seem to recall in Fick's first two years we really struggled to get quality OL recruits. It's nice to see that they finally stocked the undergrads well and we have a foundation for the future.

First Freeman related de-commit. Fick needs to go out and secure that 2022 class.

Hurt his knee late in his senior HS season and as a result his weight coming into camp was around 350. According to reports, that was their primary focus this year, but yes, that dude is an absolute mauler and looks to be a prototypical run-first RT.

A non-Covid illness was reported.

Renfro was impressive and a major upgrade at Center this season. Do we know if he missed the Peach because of injury or just an illness?

A non-Covid illness was reported.

What happens to Jakari Robinson?. Does he hang around another year just to be a back-up? Does he transfer? Is he moved to another position, such as guard. Have the coaches lost faith in him?
