RE: Official Game Thread: Gardner-Webb
Gardner-Webb was rated 3rd in the Big South by Blue Ribbon, behind #1 Winthrop and #2 UNC Asheville. They also finished 3rd in the Big South last year. They have only played twice in the year of Covid - losing by 2 to a very good Western Kentucky team 86-84 on 12/10, and losing by 17 to Pitt 67-50 on 12/12. Kenpom rates them at 236th , but I don't know how valuable their stats based ratings are with a sample of only 2 games.

Blue Ribbon thinks they have the best front court in the Big South with 6-9 Soph Kareem Reid (7.0 ppg, 4.5 rpg, .641 FG%, 2.0 blocks and Big South all freshman) and 6-8 Junior Ludovic Dufeal (1.0 ppg [5.8 last year], 6.5 rpg, 2.5 blocks).

They are excellent shotblockers with 6.5 per game, 7th in D1. But these 2 don't shoot 3's thus far.

BR rates their back court 3rd in the Big South, led by 2nd team all Big South 6-0 Jaheam Cornwall (last year had 13.1 ppg on 44% from 3, 3.9 rpg, 3.3 apg).

They shoot .386 from 3 (50th in D1) with 8.5 makes (87th in D1) Best from 3 so far are Terry with .583 and 3.5 makes; Sears with .500 and 1.0 makes; Selden with .375 and 1.5 makes; and Cornwall with .231 but 1.5 makes.

Turnover margin (-6.0) and rebounding margin (-10.5) are not good, but heck, it's only been 2 games.

Bucs were lucky to land another game against solid D1 competition. Kenpom has the Bucs by 4, 71-65.

Back Court:
#1 6-0 175 Sr. Jahearn Cornwall; 33.0 min., 14.0 ppg on .235 from 3 (1.4 makes), 4.5 reb, 5.0 ast
#0 6-2 180 So. Lance Terry; 28.5min., 12.5 ppg on .583 from 3 (3.5 makes), 5.0 reb., 1.0 ast, 1.0 stl
#3 6-2 180 Jr. Jacob Falko; 25.0 min., 10.5 ppg on .333 from 3 (0.5 makes), 3. 5 reb., 1.0 ast.
#2 5-11 175 Fr. Jordan Sears; 1 game, 12.0 min., 8.0 ppg on .500 from 3 (1.0 makes), 0.5 reb., 1.5 ast, 3.0 t.o.’s
#23 6-6 220 Fr. Anthony Selden; 18.5 min., 6.5 ppg on .375 from 3 (1.5 makes), 1.5 reb., 1.0 ast, 1.5 blks
#4 6-5 195 Fr. D’maurian Williams; 16.0 min., 4.5 ppg on .333 from 3 (0.5 makes), 2.5 reb., 2.5 ast
#5 6-6 225 Fr. Jamaine Mann; 14.0 min., 3.0 ppg on 0 3’s, 4.0 reb, 0.4 ast

Front Court:
#14 6-9 205 So. Kareem Reid; 21.5 min., 7.0 ppg on 0 3’s, 4.5 reb., 0.0 ast, 0.5 stl., 2.0 blk
#24 6-8 200 Jr. Ludovic Dufeal; 23.0 min., 1.0 ppg on 0 3’s, 6.5 reb., 1.0 ast, 1.0 stl, 2.5 blk

RE: Official Game Thread: Gardner-Webb
I heard on the radio this morning that NCA&T called the ETSU coaching staff at 3 PM Monday to say that they weren't going to make the trip to Freedom Hall. And somehow the Bucs were able to schedule a game with Gardner-Webb on what amounts to a moments notice. It makes me wonder if there is some sort of "pool" of teams needing to fill game spots that coaching staffs have access to. Coach Shay or his staff had to know they had a chance to get somebody to play at the last minute. I can't imagine them starting to call around late yesterday afternoon. (I will leave alone the question of why NCA&T, knowing Sunday that they didn't intend to play ETSU, waited until Monday to notify anyone about that.)

Very likely. If you recall, someone posted, oh, 7-8(?) years ago (I'm sure bartow was still here) a web page where coaches who needed games would post that, and the dates. It was a lengthy listing of "games wanted", and was quite the interesting read. Now, that was before the season started, and they were all trying to finalize their schedules...............but no need to think that's not still out there, and has been used for this situation.

2nd half may be best Buc basketball of the season.

Dunk by Brewer, the elder, is number 5 on last nights Sportscenter Top 10. I don't know where you can find the video.
