RE: WBB Toledo @ NIU tonight 6 p.m. tipoff
Some notes from the video:
Injuries: A'Jah Davis back from ankle injury; frosh Sydney McCrea suffered injury in practice, having ACL surgery Friday, back next season ... WISHING HER THE BEST !!!
Schedule: Game tonight and next Weds. v Ohio moved up from usual after-holiday MAC sked to create buffer for canceled games (if any ... fingers crossed)
Video also contains rundown on two recruits signed for 2021-22, q-n-a between Carlsen and the 4 junior-class players, very brief on Toledo (young team like NIU), etc etc etc.

Yet another knee injury----I remember reading an article last year that women athletes (basketball) are 5-6 times more likely to get that kind of injury than men. I think NIU can soundly provide evidence to support that data.
It's nice that Ajah is back.
From what I remember Toledo is a pretty well coached team and the contests are usually pretty good.

Sad to say, can't watch/listen. Hope someone takes it on and posts. If not, oh well. Keep the faith ... and Go Huskies! Make it three straight!

RE: WBB Toledo @ NIU tonight 6 p.m. tipoff
(Note: changed thread name after loss)
Looking at the post-game stats, it's obvious they have a great player ... Sophia Wiard (42 pts.) Oddly, just like NIU with Lehman, Woods, etc., she needs more support for the Rockets to be a big winner.
But in this game, imo, turnovers were why the Huskies lost. Toledo got 23 points off 20 NIU turnovers. NIU got just 3 points off 8 UT turnovers.
As I recall, that was a nemesis last year. Numerous posters then noted that NIU needed better ball control and work on passing skills to go with the run-and-gun.
Someone who actually got to watch the game may have a better assessment.
But 2-2 (0-1) heading into Bradley on Sunday not too bad a start. Better than ...

It is hard to completely understand a game by a box score or play by play but the eight turnovers by Koker equally all of Toledo. Seeing her enough I’m going venture a guess that a handful of these are probably on drives with wild shots or getting stripped trying to score rather than pass. She is an electric player but eight turnovers from that position is about four or five too many.
And then with ten seconds left, down one, Davis missing both free throws is more than a killer. Can not miss free points like that in a close game.
Seems like the ladies battled back after a rough first few minutes, actually led for a little bit and then just got beat in the last few minutes.

When Davis missed those two free throws, I almost threw my computer on the ground. That would have put the Huskies in the lead, and the game may have taken a different path after that. Things like that, plus all the turnovers, are tough to watch.

RE: WBB vs Toledo Thurs. and post-game
Note: In her pre-game "coffee" video, Lisa Carlsen was really high on Sydney McCrea, the frosh guard from Iowa who's now out with a torn ACL. Said if she was healthy, we'd definitely be seeing her out there. McCrea was scheduled for surgery today ... BEST WISHES FROM HUSKIELAND!

RE: WBB vs Toledo Thurs. and post-game
(rewrite and repost ... shorter).
Again ... just stats. Northern and UT were about even in PFs, but UT hit 90.9% and Northern hit 60%. High for UT but low for NIU. UT fastbreak pts = 19. NIU fastbreak pts = 9. A lot of that could be Wiard ... a Lehman/Woods-caliber player ... but still ...
On to Sunday's game at Bradley.
