Here is the problem I have with Gill:
1) The conference as a whole sent ZERO reps to CCU when they were hosting College GameDay. Are we the SEC/ACC etc where CGD gopes every year and it isn't a huge ordeal? Nope. Has a SBC team hosted CGD before? Nope. Way to show support Gill et al.
2) Other commissioners do everything in their power to get their best team in the best bowl for exposure and obviously money. The ACC commish did it, and so has the B1G commish. Yet our G5 commish will not budge. I have spoken to multiple people who know the situation way better than I do and I still cannot make sense of it....
If Troy beat us and beats ULM they are bowl eligible. Say whatever bowl it is pays them $400k. That is split pretty evenly between all 10 institutions. So you figure roughly $40k per school. If CCU makes a NY6 bowl you get at least $1m. And since it is a NY6 bowl CCU takes more than the rest of the SBC schools so say $85k per school. I might not be a math wiz but 85>40 the last time I checked. So why would Gill make CCU play a game that could jeopardize their chance at a NY6 bowl and more money for the conference as a whole? If Troy was ranked, or 7-3ish I could understand, but that obviously wasn't the case. And yes, I realize we still have to beat ULL. If there is a legitimate reason I am all for it, but everything I know and have been told, it made absolutely no sense.
So with #1 you are spot on.
With #2 I agree other Commissioners have been bending and shifting things around to better position teams.
But personally I think Coastal playing Troy was the right thing to do. You had a game to play and the Commissioner should not be overriding that. IMHO it makes the Sun Belt and Coastal look like the better league because we did not feel the need to "cheat" our way into a better position.
Coastal fans (and your coach) whining about having to play that game make you look childish which I guess nullified the high road the conference took by not canceling the game.

why was he not in Conway this weekend
I guarantee if he is here he gets on gameday for a segment to talk about how the conference is doing
arguably the biggest moment in conference history he is absent
Just odd--
I guarantee Karl Benson would have been visible as all get out
WHAT! Dude is not in SC celebrating? WTF?!! This is the biggest moment in FunBelt fball history & he's AWOL? He should be a politician right now, making as many photo ops as possible.

There were red flags last year as well when App was in the NY6 picture and there was not a peep. We should have seen this coming.

I don't think bowl payouts are going to be the same this year. Typically payouts come in the form of tickets, which are then sold. Don't think near as many tickets will be sold recently. I'm sure whatever money comes from the bowls will all go towards that team's travel expenses, and will probably even fall short. The biggest help would be if Coastal makes a NY6 bowl, which has a much higher payout and is funded by TV deals. That will benefit the conference much more than all of the other bowls combined.
I think for the smaller bowls it was travel expenses & some tickets that the team got to keep the money for selling them. Teams may lose money for bowl games which is typical unless you can sell all your allotment, so I could see this years bowl just covering expenses for the team. Tickets you have to sell to break even in the era of COVID is a dicey proposition.

What he’s saying is that it’s irrelevant and that y’all are nitpicking just to find more stuff you hate about the guy. There are legitimate concerns in regards to media relations that are valid points, but him speaking out yesterday is only good for the sunbelt...yet a lot of y’all still find fault with it. So at this point it’s hate him because he doesn’t speak(valid), hate him when he does (somehow him using the word subdivision is worth harping on).
I agree that he could be more media friendly, and yes he should travel to our respective schools a more often, but to treat what he did yesterday as a negative is silly.

You are lumping me in with others. I'm just trying to correct someone who assumed he used the term subdivision to refer to all of FBS when Gill clearly was using it in place of G5. People can make their own judgements about how they feel about it.

We've already been "minimized" by the classification, but using "sub" in the statement at a time when we have two top 20 teams is a poor choice of words at best. He doesn't speak at all on a number of important items over the year when there is a reason to promote the league or recognize items or importance to the individual schools, and then when he does it's not the best look.

Man, you can really hear the difference in styles from the 2 head coaches. I actually like both. lol. nothing wrong about being different than someone else. But they take night and day approaches to addressing the media.
