Tonight was a disgrace and I've never said that about an ODU hoops loss. I'm sure a new president will have more pressing issues than MBB, but cleaning house is something I'm suddenly in favor of. There are good people there but the whole program has got to be better than this slop from tonight. Gives loyal fans nothing to look forward to.

RE: ODU @ feces
I could only stand to watch the first half of the game... dont know how I endured that long.

It looked like we were a pick-up team playing a D1 team. Sure we had "players," but they were not coordinated and throwing dumb passes into traffic for turnovers generally ineffective at shooting.

I used to care a lot about this game... get nervous before the tip. All those butterflies in the stomach have disappeared over the years. Heck, even the VCU players have to be told by their coaches about the importance of this "rivalry." My lack of caring is another barometer to see what Jeff has done to this program. I dont even care anymore about playing Fvcu.

How can you excuse this garbage with a response like that??

Always next year, always excuses, enough is enough Jesus have some pride and standards.

This is who Jones is. I was right about Rhoades and I’ve been right about jones all along, just good enough to not get fired, not good enough to get us anywhere that ever matters and his crony buddy keeping him employed when he’s done nothing to earn it.

An absolute nightmare and worst case scenario. Absolutely nothing about tonight’s performance against our less experienced arch rivals should be acceptable or allowed. That was embarrassing on every possibly level.

Enough is enough, the recruiting stink, this team stinks and Jones should go back to American where he never should have left in the first place.

Without lucking into Trey freeman and the stith brothers this is pretty much his status quo.

Garbage.

I struggle with measuring how much our investment in football and move to CUSA has damaged our basketball program - and, most importantly, recruiting. VCU has a substantial leg up on us in recruiting when they are able to reinforce they are 100% dedicated to basketball and play in the A10. We were on a level playing field when we were both in the same conference. But that ship has sailed and here we are.

They also have a real coach and not a has been from American university.

That does tend to matter believe it or not.

So someone posted Jones has three more years. Someone else posted the school is broke. Nothing is gonna change. New school President coming when exactly, 2022? Stuck between a rock and a hard place for years it would seem. VCU left us in the dust years ago. Don’t see that changing anytime soon.

It depends on what you mean by “change”.

If the only meaningful change is dumping Jeff Jones - - then I agree, that will not likely happen. AD Woody lacks the tools to make that happen - - not just financially but from a nonexistent leadership skill set as well.

But if by change you mean having this team start to play at a D1 level, as opposed the D2 (or less) level we’ve witnessed so far this season, I think that can and likely will happen.

We have some very good players - - not great, but good. We saw yesterday a promising level of play from Trice. Ezipke and Reece need a functional supporting cast behind them, but with support can make for a very credible front court. Perhaps not WKU level, but at least competitive with the rest of the conference. I thought Strother showed some promise, and Curry (although not great) was reliable.

The real mess is with what we expected to be our offensive weapons in the back court. Oliver, Hunter and (yes even) Green are much better players than what we’ve seen so far this season. What has Coach Jones done to mess them up so badly? Can he un-mess it? If so, then this team might end up being competitive in conference play. (That, I realize, is an unacceptable standard to most on this board, but lesser fans like me will remain interested enough to see what happens.)

The chorus line on Jones is that he is good enough to keep his job but not to win anything meaningful. What I watched yesterday was not even at that level. At this point, our team looks closer to Blaine Taylor’s 5-25 disaster season. If Coach Jones does not get things figured out over the coming weeks, you will not need to be concerned about keeping him on as head coach.

The team that took the court yesterday would have lost to all but perhaps the bottom CUSA teams. Even low-expectation fans like me will lose interest if that level of play carries through this season.

I remember when we were getting at large bids and beating nationally ranked teams. I remember beating virginia and virginia tech multiple times. I remember having tall lineups. I remember actually competing nationally for womens sports. The bottom line is we get embarrassed almost everytime we play a university in any sport that is in the top 100. We have become a also ran now and I believe it has to do with money. Odu also lost an innovator in Jim Jarrett. The man knew his craft and Roseanne Runte believed in fundraising and had an image of making ODU relevant. ODU was once in a conference that was compact and had schools that were great rivalries and for the most part pushed each other. Their and our fans demanded it. If the administration and all of us fans are as complacent as we seem to be over the last few years, then you know the kids and recruits see it too. There is no excitement period. Would you if you were being recruited by old dominion actually want to play here unless you grew up around them and love them the way we do? Let's do something please now and get back to what made us great and entertaining. Watching schools like coastal carolina, appalachain state, liberty, vcu, marshall, Richmond, etc who were once equal or way under us just pass us like we were standing still has been very infuriating and this should not happen here. No more please, it really, really hurts.

So has Western Kentucky, Marshall, William and Mary, North Texas, and Liberty. Schools that we use to own.

Don't look behind us because Norfolk State and JMU are breathing down our necks.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. I will add that WKU sucked when Wood was there, and now that he’s here, we suck. I think the problems are deeper than the coaches at this point. Maybe Wood is the one that needs to go the most.

Don’t forget Radford and Longwood too. And if CNU went D1, they might too, just like they somehow did academically.

RE: ODU @ feces
For Jones to take full responsibility for that mess yesterday tells me what I need to know about his future at ODU. It should be non-existent. Whoever the new presidential candidates are, I hope to hell they or someone near them wander over here and read the dissatisfaction. I had no interest in football at the end of 2 years ago; rapidly running out of interest in ODU MBB, and I've followed the latter since 1981.

Little known fact: Alum Mark Davis' sons play at Wisconsin, Jonathon and Jordan. Did we recruit them at all? Did anyone even remember his old man played here?

I'm disgusted with all of it. How is it that an hour after losing a game to Covid 19, VCU has 2 games lined up, across the country? Are we constantly asleep at the switch? Thompson last night said no OOC team wants to play us on the fly cause we might win. That sounds like something JJ told him in pregame conversation and he just repeated it. It's BULL.

Thought Trice looked good for you guys and I get why people have been high on Ezipke here. Solid big. WKU looks like the class of C-USA but there are some good pieces on your squad. Hoping for our sake you guys show out from here on out and that this can be a top 100 type win.

Xavier Green needs to get untracked because he’s a better player than he’s been showing. You guys early on look a lot like VCU did down the stretch last season. If your upperclassmen leaders are out of sorts and not dialed in, then things get ugly which we can all too painfully relate to from the past season.

Excited about our squad, I think most honest VCU fans would tell you that we’re ahead of schedule and didn’t expect this lopsided of a result with seven underclassmen. It was good to see 4 freshmen play double digit minutes and score a combined 29 points in a big rivalry game like this. Most years you never expect to see that from freshmen in our program.

From what I’ve followed, it appears that ODU has recruited pretty well with a good incoming class by all accounts. Rivalry aside, Jeff Jones is one of the good guys and hoping he can turn things around or that your leadership does what they can to right the ship.

UNC wouldn’t tolerate losing to Duke 9 of the last 11. We shouldn’t tolerate it to VCU either. It’s simply unacceptable. I’d like to hear Jbrod or at least Wood acknowledge that, and lay out a plan to fix it. Unless they think it’s fine... which would be even worse.

We need to fix the W&M problem first (yeah, I know we beat them this year, barely, at home, while they are rebuilding.)

On the bright side, we are one of only a handful of teams whose 2019-20 season wasn't cut short by Covid.

He certainly need to go before we hire the next basketball coach, which hopefully is very soon. I won't hold my breath. I do think regardless of current circumstances JJ will be fired if this season is as bad as last season, though.
