It depends on what you mean by “change”.
If the only meaningful change is dumping Jeff Jones - - then I agree, that will not likely happen. AD Woody lacks the tools to make that happen - - not just financially but from a nonexistent leadership skill set as well.
But if by change you mean having this team start to play at a D1 level, as opposed the D2 (or less) level we’ve witnessed so far this season, I think that can and likely will happen.
We have some very good players - - not great, but good. We saw yesterday a promising level of play from Trice. Ezipke and Reece need a functional supporting cast behind them, but with support can make for a very credible front court. Perhaps not WKU level, but at least competitive with the rest of the conference. I thought Strother showed some promise, and Curry (although not great) was reliable.
The real mess is with what we expected to be our offensive weapons in the back court. Oliver, Hunter and (yes even) Green are much better players than what we’ve seen so far this season. What has Coach Jones done to mess them up so badly? Can he un-mess it? If so, then this team might end up being competitive in conference play. (That, I realize, is an unacceptable standard to most on this board, but lesser fans like me will remain interested enough to see what happens.)
The chorus line on Jones is that he is good enough to keep his job but not to win anything meaningful. What I watched yesterday was not even at that level. At this point, our team looks closer to Blaine Taylor’s 5-25 disaster season. If Coach Jones does not get things figured out over the coming weeks, you will not need to be concerned about keeping him on as head coach.
The team that took the court yesterday would have lost to all but perhaps the bottom CUSA teams. Even low-expectation fans like me will lose interest if that level of play carries through this season.
