OT: LSU really mopping up on the transfer front since Jay Johnson was named coach last week. 3 of Arizona's top players and now Samford's slugger as a grad transfer.

Schloss has also done well since arriving in Aggieland, but lost a highly regarded 2022 signee, who just decommitted tonight.

He's the second 2022 decommit from A&M in the past two days. That's the risk with the new coaches at A&M and LSU aggressively hitting the transfer portal.

Bostick (and not Janish) just tweeted a meme signaling a new commitment...and he confirmed that was the message. No clue yet who it could be. Hope it's one of the transfers we were purportedly pursuing.

Update: and the answer, 2022 C/OF Paul Smith (5'11" 195 lbs) from Episcopal High School...

Cruz Jr was interviewed on Baseball America yesterday but you need Sirus to listen to it. First time I hear Rice mentioned on Sirus. Very interesting Coach Cruz indicated he will emphasize speed, pitching, and defense as his coaching goals the first year.

UT just picked up a middle infield transfer from Kansas who hit .324 last year, with 5 HRs and 39 RBIs.

I hope this isn't one of the "massive", big impact transfers I've been hearing about. He had all of 10 ABs last year for UNC as a Freshman.

Coming out of high school, Perfect Game had him ranked as the #231 prospect in the class of 2020, and the 48th ranked SS. He was the 19th ranked prospect in Texas, and the 6th best SS. I suppose he'll get a shot at 2B this coming year as I suspect Hughes will be returning. Let's not forget that Walsh is also a natural SS, and I actually think Garibay is a superior defensive CFer.

Agree that this isn't what I'd consider a "massive" pickup but he's likely a better player than several players on our roster, so if he replaces them, I think it's a positive.

He could potentially replace Comeaux at 3B, no?

He had all of 36 ABs this past season, and hit only .167/.333/.311. Again, not overwhelmed, though he had a sterling high school career. He was heavily recruited (class of 2020) and chose Tech over Rice, A&M, Texas, Florida, LSU and Virginia, among others. Interestingly, Woodcox was ranked below Riedel out of high school. Perfect Game had Woodcox as their 500th ranked prospect and 49th best out of Texas. He is a big kid (6'1", 210lbs), and did hit 2 HRs for Tech last year in very limited action.

I think 2B is more likely. My guess is Bulman moves to 3B (or DHs), where he played in high school, allowing Becker to take over 1B. Woodcox was a high school SS, as well....so Cruz appears to be loading up with SSs as Wayne used to do. Riedel, Woodcox, Hughes and Walsh.

I have a very good visit with Jack Riedel last Thursday at the Santa Barbara Foresters (CCL) game. He spotted my Rice hat and came over for a nice chat. He was very excited to be coming to Rice. He got very few opportunities to play for the Tar Heels. He looked very good at shortstop.
The manager of the Foresters is Bill Pintard. He helped arrange the Owl trip to Cuba in 2016. He is a NY Yankee scout and the most successful collegiate summer ball coach. Bill always has very strong summer teams.

It was fun to see Mark McGwire at the the game. His son Matt is playing first base for the Foresters and plays for Oklahoma. Other college teams with players on the Foresters include Texas, Texas Tech, Tennessee, Oregon, UCLA, USC, Cal, Arkansas, Georgia, Arizona, and Arizona State.

Bostick just posted a new recruit commitment meme on twitter with the comment, "Game changer coming to South Main..." I'm presuming this does not refer to either Riedel or Woodcox, both of whom have already posted their decision to transfer to Rice...and while both may prove to be future stars, I would not classify either as a "game changer" at this point.

Fingers crossed. 03-cloud9

Agreed. Based on their limited playing time thus far, they are not gamechangers.
