Game is now cancelled.
Release from Marshall...
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Friday's Marshall-Charlotte football game has been canceled due to injuries and a lack of available Thundering Herd scholarship student-athletes at key positions. This shortage has been exacerbated by a small number of COVID-19 issues.
"Due to the developments this week, myself and our medical team felt that it was unsafe to put the team on the field Friday evening," said Marshall Director of Athletics Mike Hamrick. "I'd like to thank Charlotte AD Mike Hill and the 49ers' administration for their patience and understanding. I also want to thank the Conference USA office for its support and guidance as we worked through this process."

SCARED!
I'll say it...Marshall and some other schools in this conference are using COVID to avoid an ass kicking.

I’ll say that I’m upset with the program. When you have injuries that’s just part of it. Any other year you wouldn’t and couldn’t use that as an excuse. My guess is that it’s the offensive line. We were missing our starting tackles against Rice and our backup to both those guys has just had too many injuries to play a full game. They should buck up and play with whoever they got left.
I would say we are definitely using Covid as an excuse to try and get healthy for the championship game and I don’t like it.

So if FAU beats USM and goes to 5-1, who wins the East, FAU or Marshall (at 4-1 but with H2H over FAU)?

Unless C-USA changes its rules again (entirely possible), Marshall wins the East. 4-1=5-1 in the Covid ravaged season that is 2020. Marshall holds the head to head tiebreaker.
Also, this is exactly why I cringed every time someone tried to call a team out for canceling/postponing. It was a matter of time before it ran through everyone. Marshall was fortunate enough to make it this far before having the issue.
Hopefully everyone recovers well. The mix of injuries and Covid/contact tracing can wipe out entire position groups in a hurry.

Just like FIU, UNCC doesn't care if they play or not. If they did they would have taken personal responsibility and kept safe.

If there's little financial incentive to play, heightened risk, and getting your doors blown off, certainly Charlotte is going to bow out.
And I completely understand the Charlotte posters on this board, and the fans of both fan bases have no say in this, unfortunately this is the reality. Charlotte didn't want to come to Huntington because they knew it was going to be bad for them.
Marshall has played with injured, covid down and contract traced players on the side, why is it that so many other schools are having such a difficult time?
The Charlotte fans on this board are never going to hear the end of this. Y'all can just stay home with ODU, you're not going bowling anyway this year. All facts.
clt nods.

From what I am hearing this game has been in doubt all week because both sides were dealing with COVID issues.
I had wondered if after losing to Rice and losing the undefeated season some of our players wouldn't just say screw it and ignore protocols after the game. Might have had one guy get it this weekend and then contact tracing took out a bunch of guys.
I don't know. It sucks. I was wasting this game played bad. I think our guys, especially Wells needed another game before the championship game to get past Rice. Now they get to stew on that loss for two weeks and Wells is going to have the pressure of redeeming himself from Rice, but also trying to win a conference championship game.
I would be more upset and shocked by all of this if we didn't go through this type of stuff with Doc every season.

We played Sunday, practiced yesterday and had one scheduled today. We weren’t dealing with COVID issues that were going to keep us from playing Friday.
It happened, it’s not a big deal, but don’t put this one on us.

Actually, it would be the other way around. FAU would win the East based on a higher win percentage.
FAU @ 5-1 = 83%
Marshall @ 4-1 = 80%
I really hope I am wrong..
