That definitely needs to be posted all over the locker room walls.

definitely not getting much love. But, i honestly think many of these folks have no idea, they don't know about what we have or don't

To be fair, aside from optimism based on partial ties to previous success... we don't really know what we have either. Just my quick shot of realism here.

I get it, but i don't think we will be worse than last year. I don't think we finish top 3 either, but i think we will likely improve. I think anyone that knows enough about the program feels the same.

Just reinforces how disastrous the Benny Moss/Buzz Peterson/CB McGrath choices were . Sadly, no one cares what your team did 4 years ago....much less a decade and a half.
We stunk the last three years (although Burke showed how much better the exact same players could do under a different coach and system). When we start winning they will start giving us some love.

To be fair, I think we DO have an idea what we have and who we are.
UNCW went on a roll and took down some good teams once McGrath was let go. Also had some good games they lost. And we are a year older now with some added size and depth.
Now, I can see how others don't know what we have, but we do.

I share the optimism but the flaw is in the fact we had a different person calling X’s and O’s. Are we improved on paper? In my opinion, we should be. Did we improve in the coaching position? Impossible at this time to determine, but I’m hopeful.

82 was all over the fact the we had the wrong coach and system and was right. And, I also see it like he does here too. If you look at this from just a bigger picture type situation here, on a normal year with the right amount of talent, coaching and experience, would you ever think of UNCW as one of the 300 plus teams in this nation?
You are talking about a program that has won 6 CAA championships in the past 20 years and was in the top 40 on several occasions. If this program is under the right leadership, it's gets there eventually regardless of how far down it gets. And, they have the right leadership and system again. We have seen this movie because the passion is there from the players and fans. The expectation is to be at the top and basketball to UNCW is important relative to several CAA schools...yes, important to other CAA schools, but not as focused because we are the flagship program with the most Titles/NCAA tradition and that passion leads the players forward.
What gets lost in a ranking like this is that it is based on last year and not what this year brings. There's a lot more experience and depth now and they have a system. Yes, it may take some time initially, but I don't see it taking very long with the makeup of this team even without Estime. McGrath didn't work out, but did get good pieces for this system, not the one he was running.
I see a team that has some experience already running some press and this will be on steroids with the team being accountable for 40 deflections per game. That kind of stuff matters, wears teams down and is a proven recipe for winning in the CAA. If not this year, watch out, because it won't be long with the players Siddle is bringing in. And, they will surprise this year barring injuries, book it.

I don't expect a whole lot of love. But there is a history of us not getting preseason love. Even when we have been good. I just don't see there only being 27 teams in the whole country worse than us. Burke showed we were better than our record. And we have picked some good talent to add to it.

I love being ranked low. It's motivation for our team and if we overachieve Siddle can sell a program on the rise when recruiting. Plus, the beauty of CBB is that preseason rankings are meaningless. We'll get to prove our comparative value on the floor, and hopefully, in a conference tournament.
