UC Bowl Predictions
Figured I'd give this a thread for updates and commentary. Sounds like a bowl game might be our best/only chance as fans to see this team play in person.
Stole this from Cincinnati.com
Quote:Among the latest bowl projections for the 4-0 University of Cincinnati Bearcats: USA TODAY's prediction Tuesday of a New Year's Six meeting with the Florida Gators in the Peach Bowl.
ESPN.com also has UC playing in the Peach Bowl. Kyle Bonagura also has Florida as the Bearcats' opponent, while Mark Schlabach has Cincinnati facing Georgia.
Sportingnews.com has the Bearcats in another New Year's Six bowl - the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl - against Wisconsin.
CBS Sports has the Bearcats - ranked No. 7 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 - meeting BYU in the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth, Texas.

RE: UC Bowl Predictions
Give me Wisky and the Fiesta Bowl if I had to pick from those NY6 scenarios. We match up best with them IMO.

That would be a dream matchup IMO. Would love to see that game and to stick it to one of the programs we recruit against most in the Midwest.

I think I like that matchup best as well. Would be even more interesting if Bryant ended up playing at least part of the game at QB considering the controversy around his (de)commitment and/or offer being pulled by Wisconsin.

RE: UC Bowl Predictions
I kind of like the Wisconsin matchup too. It would be a great measuring stick on our program's success and would certainly generate lots of viewership in Ohio and around the traditional B10 footprint in the Midwest. And of course on pre-game they'd pull the footage from UC's upset of WI long ago in Nippert.
As others have cautioned, 4-0 means a long way to go still against the toughest teams in the AAC. A loss or two drops UC back to some fairly mundane bowl matchups so it's safe to say we're all hoping to run the table in the remaining month plus.

RE: UC Bowl Predictions
Yeah a game against Wisconsin will give us a lot more traction here in the Midwest than a match with a team from the South. I also imagine ESPN would blast clips of the 1999 game to remind people that UC once defeated the Badgers during a Rose Bowl season. The Bearcats should have beaten them in the return game in 2000 in Madison too. Some questionable play calling and poor decision making late in the 4th, and they rallied to beat UC 28-25.

Bolded, that was one our coach gave away for sure; a heartbreaker. Minter did a lot of good foundational work for the modern era of UC football including the stunning upset of WI the previous year. But that was a frustrating way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Miami looks equally as beatable...I'm good with anyone not named Georgia or Notre Dame if we get left out of the CFP.

Assuming we end up outside of the CFP, I want the best team available. That won't be Miami.

I'd prefer a good match up and someone where we can expect to come out with a win. I think we'd match up well with a style similar to what we've seen the past 2 weeks and what we'll see from UCF. A high flying offense that we can disrupt and a suspect defense. I'm worried Wisconsin's defense would wreck havoc on our offense but there's still a lot of season left to see which of our offenses is the real one - the offense of the first 3 weeks or the most recent 2 weeks.

Bolded, that's where I am. Winning the AAC and advancing to the NY6 are great steps but to rise to the next level this program really needs a NY6 bowl victory after the disappointing post season results in '08 and '09.
I actually like the Miami matchup--a big brand still but what appears to be a team where our personnel would match up very well. And a Bearcat victory would write yet another chapter in the ten year narrative that UC wins against ACC teams and would be highly competitive day one upon entering their conference.

i flip flop between getting a more "favorable" matchup vs. one that might be more of a statement. i guess it's damned if you do, damned if you don't as winning a favorable matchup may offer critics an out to dilute the W but if we play a more challenging opponent, the risk of a loss, and potentially a blowout, becomes more real. i think the upside of being outside of the playoffs is that it gets us out of the tier of opponent that would result in a significant differential in quality (however defined). Once you get out of the top 4 i get far less concerned about the quality of our opponent.

If we win against any NY6 team I don’t think critics could take anything away from us. It will be a good team regardless and a big win for the program regardless.

Good report.
Bolded, will the Miami players have to pass through a metal detector before entering their locker room in light of some team members' recent shenanigans in Oxford? Inquiring minds want to know. If Miami wins the MAC, will anyone know that it happened?

I don't think they'll use metal detectors because the Miami players and former players attacked the fraternity with golf clubs. What if they bring a set of woods to the game?
Somewhere in the top ten list of Miami OH problems:
Their football players play too much golf.
I don't think Florida has much of a chance against Georgia.
At halftime against Mizzou, they didn't put up much of a fight.
