Out of 47 passes that EKU threw, 8 were wide open. Not good, but also not bad. Definitely not as bad as last year.
Almost every other pass was kept in front of the D or contested.

Troy hurt themselves with lack of discipline in this game. EKU was stupidly gifted possessions that started at the Troy 3, Troy 46, Troy 50, and Troy 30... on a couple of occasions because of idiot penalties.

Having 130+ yards of penalties, and you'll struggle to beat anyone.

I haven't seen much atrocious tackling. We're actually pretty good at it.

We might have some DB's out of position every now and then, but we are #40 in the nation in pass efficiency defense, we are #23 in the nation in deflected passes with 18 so far... and we also have a CB who is tied for #1 in the nation in interceptions.

That's not a sign of being out of position. You act like this Troy defense is a carbon copy of 2019, and it's not remotely close.

Wait! Are you telling me that THIS defense is a Neal B. / Vic Ko. defense?

You and I both know that Vic made Neal Brown a tremendous success while at TROY. I’m comparing this defense to that. I don’t care that we have a cornerback who has three interceptions. I don’t care that we have a middle linebacker who was on someone’s preseason watchlist. What I see our safeties and corners who are NOT near the pass. When I see are missed tackles at the line of scrimmage on outside runs, UNLESS they’re running right up the middle. What I see are corners who continuously get beat or don’t attempt to turn around and look for the ball. I distinctly remember seeing this from the last few years of Coach Blakeney defenses.

As of today, THIS defense can’t stop anyone. When we play GASt, Coastal, ULL, stAte offenses, its gonna be UUUUGLY. We had better put up a TON of points for any shot of win’n. A TON bro!!

We’ve been before. Remember?

Did I say this was a Vic Koenning defense? No.

Comparing this defense to a defense from 2/3/4 years ago has nothing to do with the point I'm making. My point is that this defense hasn't been as bad as some Troy fans are making it out to be. Could that change? Maybe.

You'd think we've been allowing 40 points a game or something from the sounds of some of you guys. Aside from the 48 points BYU scored on us, we've only allowed 14, 17, and 29 points.

That's the least points that Texas State has scored all season, and the second least points MTSU has scored all season (their lowest was a shutout by Army).

That's not bad.

Here! Here! A Fun Belt shootout for sure. I don’t trust TROYs defensive schemes at all. Totally disjointed. Totally out of position. TROYs tackling is atrocious. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again where is coach Vic?

Those stats you sprouted off, that’s all great. But, what’s the win-loss record of the teams that we’ve played thus far? With that, how many total yards do we give up per game? How many passing yards do we give up per game? What’s our total defense nationally? Knowing all that, you think that they are going to get better against better - more talented teams? As of today, THIS defense can’t stop anyone. When we play GASt, Coastal, ULL, stAte, AppSt offenses, its gonna be UUUUGLY. We had better put up a ton of points for any shot of win’n. A TON bro!!

lol...we have not reached the rarified air of stAte when it comes to coaching continuity. NB was 4-8 his 1st season as HBC. 2nd season he started 1-1. Now, I can't speak to whether or not Troy will follow that same vane, but foreshadowing the demise of Troy football after 4 games is premature. I have seen enough to know that the team's A game will bear fruit. The talent is there, it just can't be occasional but 60 minutes worth and Troy has the potential to be what the fans are looking for. I cheer for them, but I'll never bet the house on anyone but me.

Look at it this way, take Alabama. They are undefeated and unstoppable on offense. Even though they beat Georgia pretty handily, you can see that they have some serious glaring issues on defense. When they go up against the likes of Ohio State and/or Clemson, Bama had better score a ton of points. That’s what TROY is facing as they play significantly tougher opponents

Houston, we have a problem.

HUGE difference between Brown's first year, where he inherited a dumpster fire and had to rebuild the team and the culture around the program, and Lindsay's first year, where he took a rebuilt program and turned it into a dumpster fire. Brown showed improvement game over game in year one, so even with a losing record, it wasn't a bad season. Lindsey just gives some of us flashbacks to the last few painful years of the Blakney era.

That said, the Troy team does look better this year in spite of the EKU debacle, so some improvements have been made, and the player pieces are definitely there to form a winning team. I just think none of them, coaches included, really took EKU seriously going in. I'm kind of expecting an offensive shootout this weekend. Who's better at clock management? This game will either be another nail biter or totally lopsided, no in between.

Lagassey needs to go. He’s not reliable nor consistent. Very frustrating watching him.
