Very true, Arkansas State was average, at best, for many years before they hired Hugh Freeze as HC.
Now StAte is a well-respected G5 program.

If ULM can somehow find a HC that can be a flash in the pan, and bring some excitement, and make good hires afterward, that would help. Winning brings more community support, more donors, more advertisement, more exposure, more students, etc.
Even with their small budget, they can do it. Most of our programs started out with very small budgets upon moving to 1A/FBS.
Arkansas State wasn't spending much on football until they hired Freeze, who got them on the map, and their budget has exploded since then.

The only thing is you'd be like Idaho and be a middle of the pack to bottom feeder in the Southland conference also, that is if the Southland would take you. The Southland is bloated with unnecessary schools as it is.
ULM Scorecard in IA
1 winning season since 1994 (2012 8-5), 2 out of 8 wins over a team with a winning record 8-4 MTSU, 7-6 WKU
18 seasons in IA before a winning season
7 straight losing seasons since 2012, working on your 8th (0-5)
1 bowl game 2012 Indy Bowl- Ohio 45 ULM 14
4 6-6 seasons
2 1 win seasons
3 2 win seasons
115 wins in IA or 4.4 wins per season
200 losses in IA or 7.6 losses per season
With the smallest athletic budget in IA things won't change. And I see some ULM fans try and defend why the Sun Belt keeps them but I don't see it. The Sun Belt would be much better if they replaced ULM. As bad a Rutgers and Temple was in the Big East for years, they weren't ULM bad.
Is WKU down right now and were they bad when they went IA, yep. But they haven't been a steaming hot pile of crap the whole time they have been IA unlike ULM.
Just a couple years ago no one seemed to care how ULM performed. Now you're compelled to come here and lob insults. ULM fits well in this conference. They'll find the resources to keep up. We'll see how well this works out for west Virginia in time. You're in a tough spot geographically and politically. Times are good at the moment. We like Louisiana.
I’m interested in your opinion so forgive me if I ask you to elaborate a bit here.
1. How do you expect ULM to keep up, given their track record of 30ish years in FBS with one winning season? What do you expect to change, given money is now more important than ever?
2. Expand a bit on the limitations you are arguing exist due to Marshall’s geographic and political footprint.
1. More often conference members will step up based on the level of competition. We've seen this play out in the Southern Conference. If the Sun Belt continues to remain stable and on the rise ULM will benefit as we all will.
2. A multitude or reasons geographically. From north to south any realignment would include the Floridas. They're relatively knew to the table as many of us but their influence is significant if change occurs. Let's not compare the economies of Florida and West Virginia.
When Marshall was in the Southern Conference with App State and Georgia Southern, we helped that conference step up significantly.

Herdzone is a fun guy when they win against the only quality opponent on their schedule with no one of note remaining. Marshall shouldn't face another opponent that can stay within 10 of them.

One comment from a UL poster isnt exactly stealing the spotlight. Ironic that a GS poster would make such a comment though, y'all used to be the best at that.

I’m not so sure about that. We have LaTech this week on the road, FAU at home, potentially a game with UAB, and Charlotte isn’t a bad team.

WKU 14
WKU scores a Garbage TD with :06 on the clock. The demise of Appy is def underestimated. If Tavante Beckett isn't the NCAA defensive player of the week then something is wrong and he got screwed. He had 3 fumble recoveries and one as a scoop and score 38 yards out.
WKU is garbage; this result doesn’t really say much. Also, fumble recoveries are a lot of luck and not so much skill.

you are -13 on the road vs. LA Tech, who beat UTEP by 4. I've seen UNCC, App tried everything to keep them in the game and won by 15.

FAU can't keep their team out of Covid issues. They may run out of makeup dates.

Agreed. You left though and I think 9 more national championships resulted. Thanks bro! That's one every other year. You should consider coming back home sooner than later.

Don't be so quick to judge LA Tech. They have 6 consecutive winning seasons coming into this year, with an aggregate 52-28 (.650) record in that stretch, and are actually the only school in the nation to win their last 6 bowl games consecutively.

COOSA takes the first FBS loss to an FCS on the season. FIU loses 19-10 to Jax State.

Since realignment in 2012, CUSA has lost to an FCS team(s) every year except in 2016.
