ECU 44 - USF 24

RIP USF defense...thats the same ECU we held to 50 rushing yards for 1.9 YPC and 0 offensive TD last week.
Marshall 38
WKU 14

WKU scores a Garbage TD with :06 on the clock. The demise of Appy is def underestimated. If Tavante Beckett isn't the NCAA defensive player of the week then something is wrong and he got screwed. He had 3 fumble recoveries and one as a scoop and score 38 yards out.

I think maybe you mean their demise is overestimated? Do I understand what you're saying here? (That App is better than they may seem, right?)

And in other scores, Iowa State and K-State keep winning, which makes the early Belt wins look even better but inexplicably threatens the Cajuns' ranking in the Top 25.

WKU is garbage; this result doesn’t really say much. Also, fumble recoveries are a lot of luck and not so much skill.

No Garbage is Louisana Monroe, ULM has always been hot garbage who stays IA and really shouldn't. The only thing is you'd be like Idaho and be a middle of the pack to bottom feeder in the Southland conference also, that is if the Southland would take you. The Southland is bloated with unnecessary schools as it is.

ULM Scorecard in IA
1 winning season since 1994 (2012 8-5), 2 out of 8 wins over a team with a winning record 8-4 MTSU, 7-6 WKU
18 seasons in IA before a winning season
7 straight losing seasons since 2012, working on your 8th (0-5)
1 bowl game 2012 Indy Bowl- Ohio 45 ULM 14
4 6-6 seasons
2 1 win seasons
3 2 win seasons
115 wins in IA or 4.4 wins per season
200 losses in IA or 7.6 losses per season

With the smallest athletic budget in IA things won't change. And I see some ULM fans try and defend why the Sun Belt keeps them but I don't see it. The Sun Belt would be much better if they replaced ULM. As bad a Rutgers and Temple was in the Big East for years, they weren't ULM bad.

Is WKU down right now and were they bad when they went IA, yep. But they haven't been a steaming hot pile of crap the whole time they have been IA unlike ULM.

Hard facts. I actually posted a similar thread on Yosef’s Cabin this week regarding ULM and what in the world their plan is long term. It’s not an attack on their fans...hell I’d argue they are the most loyal on earth. But the stats are the stats and to your point that athletic budget will keep them there forever.

I have NO IDEA what keeps that program going every year.

I don't think WKU is garbage. I think they're probably a top 5 CUSA team, but keep in mind that that doesn't help at all the argument that CUSA is better than the Sun Belt because you beat App with how easily you waxed Western.

I said after Marhall beat App I wasn't convinced yet App ran out of mana but thought it was more likely Marshall was just that good. And I do think App has slipped some, but not the point they aren't still the favorites in a good SBC.
Damn y'all. I've really come to appreciate ULM's resource-minded approach. It's like rooting for the Rays...when positive things happen, it's easy to feel good for them.

I’m interested in your opinion so forgive me if I ask you to elaborate a bit here.

1. How do you expect ULM to keep up, given their track record of 30ish years in FBS with one winning season? What do you expect to change, given money is now more important than ever?

2. Expand a bit on the limitations you are arguing exist due to Marshall’s geographic and political footprint.

With that vid we agree again.
I can remember, prior to 2005, when folks were saying the same thing about the Cajuns. You'll NEVER be able to compete,, they said. You need to go back to 1-AA they said, not knowing we had never been 1-AA.

I think ULM gets to decide ULM's future, not some dude with stats. They have a new President who hopefully will figure out athletics are important.

It starts there.

I'm curious to see what the new ULM president is able to do.

He seems to understand the importance of athletics for the public perception of a university. Sounds like he wants to improve ULM's athletics as a way to get more exposure, more students, and more community involvement.

It really comes down to 2 choices...

1. Stay in an FBS league on the rise that's getting unprecedented money from TV and unprecedented money from the CFP post-season (that will continue to increase after the inevitable playoff expansion).

-Or-

2. Go back to the increasingly irrelevant FCS to a conference (SLC) is probably irrelevant as ever within the FCS.

The worst case scenario is that the first choice sucks a lot less than the second one.

1. More often conference members will step up based on the level of competition. We've seen this play out in the Southern Conference. If the Sun Belt continues to remain stable and on the rise ULM will benefit as we all will.

2. A multitude or reasons geographically. From north to south any realignment would include the Floridas. They're relatively knew to the table as many of us but their influence is significant if change occurs. Let's not compare the economies of Florida and West Virginia.

Go back through the thread and see that the first rock was thrown by the ULM guy, he opened it up for this. You can't call a program trash that barely lost to liberty, and then see how bad ULM got thrashed by the same squad, throwing rocks while living in a glass house doesn't make sense. WKU isn't as bad as we made them look. ULM hasn't found resources since they've been 1a, unless some billionaire donates 10-20 million more to their annual budget, it ain't happening. Idaho had a better budget and they chose to go where they belonged.

You all were an abysmal program during the 90’s and still had 3 winning seasons in the decade. ULM a has had one, ever.

I hope you are right and this new president can find some success for them. I just have no clue how with their budget and location.

If App had one winning season in our past 30, I’d be a firm advocate for playing at a level where we are among peers financially that gives us a chance at success. The idea that it would be less relevant is ludicrous.

The figures speak for themselves, they’d be among peer institutions at the FCS level from a financial perspective. In fact their spending would be middle of the pack in the Southland Conference.

The point BoP made about the Cajuns could also be made about Ark State pre 2010 BTW.
