What 2020 change is likely to reappear in subsequent years?
There are lots of unique changes for the 2020 season. Most are born out of necessity, but theoretically some could stick around for 2021 or reappear later. Which ones are most likely?

I’m really liking the scheduling flexibility...UVA get to play Clemson, Wake, NCState and FSU this year. Long rivalries that need to be played more frequently.
Of course, I may be singing a slightly different tune after Saturday’s game versus the Tigers.
Greater scheduling flexibility needs to continue beyond 2020.

Two and a half months later. Any 2020 “features” you see returning?

I think they will eventually go to no divisions.
5 or fewer CFP rankings would be a good thing. Its possible, but ESPN likes the ratings for the show.

I would love to see more conference games (or at least more P5 vs P5 games). I’d much rather see more competitive match ups and fewer body bag games. P5 vs FCS is unacceptable.

I don't think any of the choices will stick but the one I think has the best chance of happening is going division less

I think the ACC will get rid of Divisions. the question is it going to 8 or 9 conference games. If the ACC stays at 8. ND may consider to join with having 4 OOC games. I think dipping their toes in the conference waters was a success. It shows the road is easier for them to be in a conference for the CFP. Now will they, I doubt it.

I think P5 schools should do away with not playing other schools for last minute scheduling.
Make a waiver that FCS and D2 schools can play just 1 season for helping with creating more games for them to be FBS.

Are you saying you want a D2 school with less than 36 equivalent scholarships and no-star athletes to play a team with 85 guys on full scholarships and 3-, 4-, and 5-star athletes?
Just when you think you've heard the most absurd thing ever, it's amazing it can still be topped.
Doubtful espn would be thrilled with showing Auburn v Shorter and its final score of 105-0.

It was interesting and intriguing how quickly BYU and Coastal were able to agree to and schedule a cross country game. So---what if we used that ability to solve the biggest issue of the CFP era--lack of key data points.
What would really be interesting is if every single FBS team tossed one OOC game from 2021 and every single FBS school left the 10th game open. Furthermore, all of these "open" 10th games would be synced to be scheduled on the exact same weekend for every single FBS team in the nation.
For the most part, after 9 games, we have a really good idea who's good and who's not so hot. Using the BCS formula stats, after all the last west coast games are done on Saturday night of the 9th week, all the data would be put into a computer which would then determine which OOC match ups would yield the most effective data points to be provide effective metrics for comparison between conferences. This would not only create key P5 vs P5 data points---but also some key G5 vs P5 match ups to tell us who in the G5 is for real and who is a Top-25 pretender. The computer generated match ups would be a surprise to fans and could be announced on an unveiling show on Sunday morning---much like bowls on selection Sunday.
My guess is Week-10 would almost instantaneously become one of the biggest, most anticipated--and most watched---weeks of the college football season.

That would be awesome, but I just don’t see all the conferences agreeing to that. Too many logistical hurdles and too many big egos to work around for all the schools. Need an ACC/Pac12 datapoint, suddenly Miami has to fly to Oregon on one weeks notice. Not going to happen. Would have to have designated home/away teams before season started, and set likely have to set designated potential replacements. If it were to somehow happen, I do think it would be the most anticipated weekend other than rivalry week for many schools for sure.

It really is a cool idea. Something not all that different was done in college basketball with the ESPN BracketBusters event for quite a few years-- of course, it didn't include the P5 and moving a basketball team is a lot easier than an entire football team.

That’s a great idea. Unfortunately it will never happen. That idea makes too much sense. The problem is coaches would want no part of that. Coaches want wins. They keep their jobs because of wins. Anything to make getting those wins harder isn’t going to happen.

RE: What 2020 change is likely to reappear in subsequent years?
There were a lot of interesting proposals thrown around yesterday on the selection show by the hosts and several coaches.
Playoffs expanded to 6-8-or even 12 with a shortened season to accommodate a longer playoff schedule. This would require two things: a breakaway of the P5 because the playoff revenue would be distributed to make up for the lost revenue and the game(s) eliminated from the regular season were the "money" games. This suggested that all games played by P5 teams would be against other P5 schools. There was mention of champions being included. The move to 12 playoff participants was to insure that all regions of the country were included in the playoff process. The expanded playoffs could be done in conjunction with the existing bowls.
To coincide with this the G5 needed to separate: start their own playoff with their own Heisman type award etc..

Not going to happen unless the P5 start inviting the best G5 and FCS schools. You will have less teams west of the Mississippi, and the region will be not able to be represented at all. If all the northwest schools suck in the P5 and Boise State is the best team unbeaten? You would be excluding the best team in that region.
