Keith Lee, William Bedford and Baskerville Holmes vs. Joey Dorsey, Robert Dozier and Antonio Anderson. The 85 team would win every one of those matchups.
Lee would have three fouls on Joey in first half. Unless Clougherty is officiating and then Keith might be in foul trouble.
It is legitimate to ask if you even watched any of the games. Do you know how many big men we fouled out in 5 NCAA games in 1985? ZERO. In 5 NCAA games we managed to get 4 fouls on #15 seed, Penn's big man in the first round and 4 fouls on #11 seed Boston College's big in the Sweet 16.
Lee had 22 fouls in 131 minutes; fouled out of 2 games; had 4 fouls in the other 3 games, averaged 4.5 fouls per game, and averaged 5 fouls per 29 minutes and 6.7 fouls per 40 minutes in the tournament.
Dorsey had 18 fouls in 178 minutes, fouled out of 2 games; had 3 or less fouls in all the other games, averaged 3 fouls per game, and averaged 5 fouls every 49 minutes and averaged 4 fouls per 40 minutes in the tournament.
BUT...Lee would have (apparently) had 3 fouls on Dorsey in the first half, even though the best the entire Memphis State team could do in a game in the 1985 NCAA Tournament, was get 4 fouls on Penn's Neil Bernstein and Boston College's Trevor Gordon.
IF the 1985 team had to play with a shot clock at the speed of the 2008 team; Lee wouldn't have lasted 15 minutes in any game without fouling out.
You are confusing athletes and basketball players. Keith probably has one of the highest basketball IQs to this day of Tiger players. And the games were called much differently in Keith's time than in Joey's time. Touch fouls all the time in the 80s. And if there was a shot clock back then all of the players would be in shape to play with a shot clock. It would be classic full court team vs a half court team. And in my opinion, Keith faced better competition than Joey ever did. Olajuwan, Ewing, Tisdale, the McCray's and Big John down at Tulane.
Year after year. Those were the days.
This one was actually a bit of work...
I went over our opponents from 1982-85 and 2006-09. Here is the list of players we faced that had good to great NBA careers. At the bottom is a list of players that had good college careers but not great NBA careers, or no NBA career at all. Very proud of unearthing Xavier McDaniel and Antoine Carr, btw. 4 points per game 1982 Milt Wagner not on the list, but on it onward. The players had to be good college players each year.
1982: Mitchell Wiggins, Hot Rod Williams, Derek Smith, Rodney McCray, Doc Rivers, Ed Pinckney

Definitely more NBA legends and star power on the 1982-85 list. Lots of depth on the 2006-09 list.
