Netflix under fire over "Cuties" - but what about other shows over years on cable???
https://www.foxbusiness.com/markets/netf...ibers-flee

Quote:YipitData, a global research firm, told FOX Business that Netflix's churn, or the amount of customers who choose not to renew their subscription, began to substantially increase following the film's release.

YipitData believes churn could continue to grow in the coming days, as an online petition against the film has gained over 614,000 signatures as of Monday evening.

The streaming giant, known for its popular titles such as "The Crown" and "House of Cards", has seen a subscriber boom during the pandemic, adding 10.1 million paid memberships in the second quarter, up from 2.7 million in the same period a year ago.

Netflix declined to comment on YipitData's report.

I understand the push against Netflix; however, how come the various cable TV networks weren't lambasted to a similar extent? "Toddlers and Tiaras" sexualized kids at even younger ages than Cuties. Also, "Honey BooBoo" showed similar things. I don't get it.... why now and not then?

I think those kinds of pageants like in Toddlers & Tiaras sexualize those girls too, but those are generally viewed as okay - more of a mother/daughter kind of thing. With Cuties, I think the problem was the advertising.

If you think the problem is just the advertising then you haven’t seen the movie or any of the controversial scenes.

Of course most mom’s that have their young girls in cheerleading or dance these days are sending them out doing the same thing as the girls in the movie. My wife teaches 4th grade, I’ll start getting the “girls twerking at recess” stories soon as they see this movie. They already do all the sexually suggestive Tik Tok stuff.

Tik Tok, Instagram, Snapchat, etc drives more behaviors and exposure of young kids to inappropriate material than anything you'll find on TV or online streaming services.
