I mean, they started from scratch with nothing and were able to leverage a large media market, school population (student fees) and corporate sponsorships into their program so that they can claim 3 bowl appearances and a win over UT. If you can name a program who has had a more successful start I'd like to hear it.
USF for sure. They had reached a power concerned and a top 10 ranking by year 19 I think. They had an incredible rise.

Year 10 not 19.

The beauty of this thread is GA St. fans thought they'd be further along in fan/city engagement and probably conference affiliation by year 10 while GS fans would have laughed at the notice that GA St. would have a .500 record against them and as many bowl trips.

Also funny that GA St. fans probably wished they were CUSA in 2014, but now glad to be with the SBC instead. I know this App fan is.

Pretty sure credit for FCS has been set aside.

Series of pivots at warp speed. We had the wrong AD in 2010 and within a year by 2011 realignment talks had started behind the scenes and decisions had to be made then. There was literally no time. The practice facility was being built in an existing building. So the footprint was finite. When the project started the idea was building for FCS even as others on campus in leadership knew they were going to pursue FBS. Because of space no weight room was built and players had to trek back to the Sports Arena for S&C. It was not until Trent Miles came in and shamed them by lifting in a tailgate tent, that they found donor money to build a steel building at the practice facility.

Arthur Blank starts talking about needing a new stadium. Municipalities all over Metro ATL start making a play and Cobb looked like the leader. At that point it looked like we had the Dome to ourselves. Pivot. Then Mayor Reed said take my hotel money please! Year down the Dome and Build a Better Dome. Oh and GSU you're not invited. Pivot! Are we young to have to be like Temple and pay some ridiculous amount? Are we going to end up playing at Grady High School? Panthersville?
Then the Braves decide they would take Cobb's deal. Mayor calls President Becker during the presser. Lol. Reverse pivot. The contact between our then AD and conferences in 2010-12 for realignment was a cartoon to the point that Becker had to take over the last 6 months that led up to the SBC announcement.

The point is that I am sure there are a bunch of decisions the University leadership would have taken back if they had to do it together. There are a bunch that I am sure they would tell you that they made the best move at the time. Was James Madison wrong? Can't say. Should VCU have started football in the CAA? Should ODU have waited a couple days before canceling their season? Who knows. Maybe in three years they end being right and we are all wrong. Overall I am happy at where we are at 10 years in. I have zero complaints and in some ways (Center Parc Stadium) we are ahead of where I envisioned.

Think whatever you want to about our accomplishments, those of us who stayed true through the rough start have earned every bit of joy we get from them.
