The annual "P6 on field" thread
Edited 27 October 2021.
Adding 2020 end-of-year Massey Composite in the summary up top and importantly, getting all the links in the right place. I frequently refer back to this one, but a bump was probably better than a new thread
Once again Massey's Composite ranking has turned to pre-season. So the 2019 end of season Massey Composite of 103 rankings are now archived and final.
From the archives, here is the historical record of P6ness.
2020 AAC #6. Closer to #5 than any #6 2013-2018. COVID asterisk: #7-9 came close to #6 tho (MAC no OOC, SBC extreme outlier year for top 3)
2019 AAC #5!!! Ahead of the ACC at #6. Closer to #2 than to the #7 mwc. Closer to #1 SEC than to #8-#10
2018 AAC #7. Bummer. mwc at #6 was 2.48 avg ranking spots better...compared to AAC 14.17 better than the mwc in 2019 and 17.12 better than the mwc in 2017
2017 AAC #6. Closer to #5 than to #7-10. Closer to #1 than to #9-10.
2016 AAC #6. Closer to #5 than to #8-10. Gap from #6-7 58% of the gap from #5-6.
2015 AAC #6. Closer to #5 than to #7-10.
2014 AAC was #8. But from the #8 slot, closer to #6 than any G4 has been to the AAC at #6 since then.
2013 AAC #6.

It sure would be nice if some of these data points would end up on the realignment board, but I don't know how to do it. Maybe billdazzle will see this and tell everyone how much Memphis and Cincinnati have grown , or maybe quo,,,, naaaaw won't happen.

Just like someone on another message board posts; JWB.
That's all the conference can do.

Quo ignores any data that runs counter to whatever narrative he's committed himself to (which is almost always anti-AAC). I think the sheer fact that the P6 slogan attracts hordes of haters shows its working. We're living rent free in their heads. Lmao

RE: The annual "P6 on field" thread
The P6 is working, ND would never have played USF if it wast working, in 2011 technically USF and ND were still in then AQ BIG EAAST.
Alternating Florida (UCF/USF) game, and Texas (Houston/SMU) game for them vs AAC each year in addition ton Navy would really Boost AAC credibility.
3 game per year vs AAC.

Would be nice, but not sure how you convince them to an annual agreement when they already have so many rivalries and scheduling obligations

Honestly, they were playing Western Michigan. I do not think this has anything to do with p6

I didn’t read the whole Navy/BYU thread, but chuckled when I saw a post about the loss bringing the conference rep down. IIRC, there have been multiple posts over the years attributing big wins to specific schools not the conference. Can’t recall the exact verbiage and don’t care enough to look it up, just found it funny.

The numbers are very encouraging and I do, indeed, feel Cincinnati football and Memphis football have both benefited from AAC football having continued to improve.
Having followed the Tiger football for as long as I have, the stability the American has provided the program has been huge.
I'm pleased to see the league grow and gain some national stature.

Edited 27 October 2021 - updated original post and adding this reply to bump.

So I assume the easiest way to understand the rating number is average conference program rank?

Don't worry. The MWAC posers who frequent this board will see it and get mad, then try to spin it anytime now.

Correct, for the short answer, "easiest way"
.
.
.
.
.
I think it's actually an average of averages...click on any of the links and each column is a rating/ranking system, right? A team's row has its ordinal ranking in each system -- the eleven rows of the conference section show a 1-11 ordinal (because FBS independents are a "conference") but I believe that behind each of those is an average of the 10 or 11 or 12 or 14 entries for that conference in the 130 rows of a system's column.
Alternately, go to the far right of any team row and you have mean median and sigma...and the conference mean is in a column with the 130 team means. Whether he is averaging it across or down, I don't know.
But yes, average ranking, so smaller is better.
