Do you ever get bored and watch the MAC Weds, Thurs night football games on ESPN? Right before the game starts, someone wrangles the fans together into one area of the stadium that makes it look like there are a lot of fans in the stadium. After that, the cameras shoot up to the stadium at a low angle, and the only thing we viewers see are five drunk, fat, shirtless fans (probably paid) standing in the front row, and spelling in red paint: M - A - I - M - I.
Nobody goes to MAC football or basketball home games. Ask Coach Bob
Huggins about the quiet arenas of the MAC. He coached Akron right before the Bearcats, and the MiamiOH gym was over half empty except when his Bearcats showed up. He wisely ended the Miami series.
At least the UC Marshall game on FB was honest. In the third quarter the viewer could see that a lot of fans were leaving or had left the game trying to beat Huntington traffic. In the fourth quarter the Marshall stadium was almost empty. Near the end I only saw a few students who looked like they were undecided on what party to go to. The halftime feature on Chris Ferguson was outstanding. No commercials and no TV timeouts. The announcers were busy but did a good job.
On the other hand...
I could not stand the tOSU game broadcast. The announcers from BTN were Buckeye homers. Brian Wright made a good tackle and an announcer said "tackle by ................ number 11."
I know there were two 11's on the Bearcats roster, Lenny Taylor and
Brian Wright. But Taylor is a TE and Wright lines up all over the place on defense and was the Bearcats leading returning sacker.
The only thing worse than the B10 announcers was the B10 officiating.
Go Bearcats, beat MAIMI.
