Trump is totally to blame and should be held accountable for downplaying or dismissing the threat of COVID-19 in Jan/Feb, wasted months that could have been spent on gearing up federal responses, prepardness and actions. That is all on him, its why even today 63% of US gives him poor rating on addressing this crisis. He's the leader and he failed this country.

Which is more important, what a man says or what a man does? Trump can tell the people that we have everything under control in order to reassure them and to keep everyone from running out and buying all the toilet paper and water, but what did he DO? While Faucci was telling him that there was no human-to-human transmission of this disease because that's what the WHO and China were telling the world, he stopped travel from China, and when he found out what was happening in Italy, he shut down travel from Europe. When everyone was saying they needed ventilators, he cut regulations and provided money to ramp up production. He sent military to build field hospitals and sent a naval ship hospital to new York. You can in hindsight criticize Trump for how he responded, but to say he didn't take this disease serious or didn't do anything is flat out false.

the above is fantasy. look into any of your points above and they are disproven. for example, China began regular virus information sharing with US on January 3 and had a direct call with US head of CDC on January 4 with a follow up call on cooperation on January 8. A Chinese test was developed on January 10 and shared with WHO and US on this date. The genome sequence of the virus was published internationally on January 12. On January 21 the Pasteur Institute of Shanghai (affiliated w Chinese CDC) published an English language paper on human to human transmission of the virus. On January 22 there was call between US and China to discuss the first case of COVID in US.

Trump's Jan 31 "ban" was based on nationality not a comprehensive public health travel ban. It did not stop Americans or their family members from travelling to China, Italy or elsewhere. It did not stop the transport of goods and trade and the people involved in those activities from travelling to and from China (a massive daily international exchange). It basically just stopped Chinese nationals (and some other foreigners) from getting on planes from China to the US in February, after the disease was pretty much global.

the field hospitals in NYC were a publicity stunt. they sat empty in the harbor for weeks cuz it was so complicated to transfer patients to them that local NYC doctors gave up trying. we had a ventilator and PPE shortage because all initial efforts were to have the market handle it and there was massive price gouging and demand competition that made it very difficult for those in need to get priority access.

c'mon, open your eyes regardless of your political affiliation, regardless of your feelings on Chinese government (not my favorite), stop shifting blame, where is the responsibility for America's unique failure to manage the virus? No one can stop you from trying to buy the Brooklyn Bridge but Trump is a con man, who has been incompetent. His delegating of government leadership has been a revolving door primarily based on loyalty not qualifications, skills, or effort. I have been working with the CDC for a decade and their professional functioning went off the cliff in 2017 and that was before the pandemic. this is not to say all Democrats did a great job or Fauci has been correct on everything, or you should believe everything you hear on CNN, but not seeing clothes on this naked emperor is all in your head and the bare truth is ugly.

so, RocketJeff makes a political argument about COVID and Trump that is factual poop (the day after drinking too much beer stank kind). I refute it fully with the actual facts and your response is to shift the conversation to the politics of a Middle East drug smuggling operation. Gawd, I cannot. Yes, Boca, Project Cassandra was undermined by larger political forces and honest lower level govt workers saw their efforts sidelined. Welcome to drug smuggling politics-Iran Contra, Cointelrpo, anywhere you wanna dig into places where drugs, politics and hard cash intersect you will find dirt and government cover ups. We can start a whole board to research these things and never have time for sports, much less the conversation that was actually being had on the specific topic of the imminent thread.

Responses have been "ramped up" for months and I see people of all leanings out having the parties, local police looking the other way (and not in some cases, hmmmm), hell I think I recognize a few having the good time.

Not ONE country stopped this. Not ONE country contained this. Even those little isolated islands only some mail person visits, had to deal.

What does his heart have to do with his false information? If I say the Rockets lost a game because there was no backboard on the basket we were shooting at when actually everyone was shooting at the same basket I’m not speaking from the heart. I’m making up an excuse for the loss. You are free to say what you want but if it looks like poop and it smells like poop I’m not gonna call it honey. There is a reality we live in. as far as that reality applies to Covid there is a massive difference Between the US response and that of most other countries that’s why we have so many dead people I’m not saying that from the heart the reality is they are dead.

The reality is, there's a massive difference between The US and other countries. None of them have our density of populations at the same time the economic freedom of movement and diversity of thought and adversity to being told what to do. If there were failures in this country regards this never before happened anything like this pandemic, the most glaring was the inability of people to follow the advice given.

Not one country prevented this virus from entering their borders. Not one.

It's easy to presume someone's politics and claim that is ruling their observations and reasonings, hence they're wrong. This is all you did. It's harder to site your sources that disprove what they've said.

So, what are your non-political sources? Are you honestly of the opinion that if Trump had said in Jan, "hey gang, we really ought to close down everything and hide away because there's this virus that may or may not be coming," ANYONE would have listened whether in his fan base or not?

NY, NJ, Penn, and Mass. account for more than 1/3
of the US's covid deaths. The US ranks 9th in the World in covid deaths per 1 million pop. And about #50 in covid death rate.

A dense highly transient corridor. The blamers keep talking in hindsight that there was something the President or any of those governors could have done that anyone would have listened to in Dec, Jan, Feb... I don't see that and I don't recall seeing any riots to shut down the country in that time-frame.

Pandemics happen. If and only if we'd been more individually compliant, more sacrificial, that death toll and transmission rate might have been somewhat more contained but regardless, we were going to get and spread it.

As Donald Trump said four years ago during his campaign for president, he could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot someone and his supporters would remain loyal. In most cases, if you liked Trump before coronavirus, you think he's done a fine job handling the crisis.

Lets see the numbers after cold and flu season, then we can make a better assumption . We aren't even a year into the numbers and everyone is sure this is no big thing. It's just sad this has had to happen in a presidential election year as I think things would have been handled better if elections weren't in the back of everyone mind ( on both sides of the aisle).

All those points I made are accurate East, this is a message board not a dissertation panel, posting sources would be pretentious and time consuming. The point about travel to and from China is semantic, To me the context of Jeff’s argument Is that Trump shut down travel w China , when the reality is travel Was partially limited and continued. All my points are easy to source but you would just find a way to question them as you do w every political post I make. I mean Jeff said the WHO and China told the world there is no human to human transmission of the disease which is false, and deceptive. Did you ask him to post his source? I detailed the open source timeline of what really happened In January which is easy to corroborate. I mean come at me if you want, I post my political perspectives here not for affirmation but because I know some folks disagree and the back and forth forces me to consider their perspective, but how come you keep coming at me to challenge how my views make others here feel, but you don’t do the same in regards to their posts?

You're right, poop is poop. I had to put the computer downwind just to make it through your post.

RocketJeff said Trump stopped travel from China and you said no he didn't he stopped travel from China. It's in black and white.

You're only refutation of his facts were you saying they were wrong. You quoted no sources. Calling something "fantasy" doesn't make it fantasy. Sources do.

Regarding the Chinese and no human-to-human transmission reported, it's stated in the CDC's HAN Advisory 0424-01/08/2020 1615(4:15).
Trump shutdown Chinese travel with the exception of immediate families of US citizens and permanent
residents. Fauci did say it saved lives but the actual number would be hard to determine.

RE: New $5, 15 Minute Covid Test
Haha, everyone’s posts are influenced by their politics and sources of information. I work in healthcare and while I’m not an epidemiologist I have been in the loop on Covid since late January. It’s simply a different reality from this angle. Politicians are constantly making excuses or lying or misleading people about their mismanagement. I find Trump and his admin to be the most incompetent, but the centrist Democratic leaders in my state have done a lousy job, and I still can’t get over Deblasio’s April presser with body bags piling up when he said “we had no way to know it could spread asymptotically” and the public health people were like ,“ what? That was common knowledge 2 months ago”. Lots of excuses all around. Fact is US puts more money into health care than anyone, has the most national resources, huge corporate and public health infrastructure, great manufacturing capacity, and got a head start by getting the virus later than most and getting extra time to prepare but we still ended up being among the worst counties preventing spread and death. And that death and people w complications are focused on lower income black brown and immigrant heavy communities. It’s hard to watch my local community health centers do everything right and prevent the First wave only to have bad governance and an allegiance to consumer spending cause second and third waves which are now hammering us. People with some money and space are often downplaying the threat, but in overcrowded housing and places w lots of low wage workers we’re hostage to that avarice. Once it hits us it’s very hard to contain and people’s parents and grandparents are dying. My replies are intended to encourage people to hold those who have fu$ked up accountable and not be so naive to buy into excuses based on lies or misrepresentation.
