SEC lists conditions that would trigger cancelling football
Just for SEC schools *wink*
SEC conditions that could cancel football
- Inability to isolate new positive cases, or quarantine high risk contacts of cases of university students.
- Unavailability or inability to perform symptomatic, surveillance or pre-competition testing when warranted.
- Campus-wide or local community positivity test rates that are considered unsafe by local public health officials.
- Inability to perform adequate contact tracing consistent with local, state or federal requirements or recommendations.
- Local public health officials indicate an inability for the hospital infrastructure to accommodate a surge in COVID-19 related hospitalizations.

One could argue that most of these conditions aren’t currently being met.

There’s the rub for me: “one could argue...” Too many open or lockdown conditions are so subjective. All 5 of those conditions read, to me, as CYA statements worded specifically to say, “we did release conditions on that and they weren’t followed” without having to actually make any decision at all.

I can almost guarantee there will be a scenario where, lets say Nashville and Tuscaloosa but it could be others, both have local health officials sound the alarm that the community spread is too aggressive, contact tracing is falling apart, and the local healthcare system is reaching critical mass. One University system pulls the plug, while the other University system gets the state to overrule the local government.
If we make it that far.

Northwestern just had a bunch of false positives that they had shut down workouts for. Quickly retested, tests came back negative. Goes back to asking about whether or not somebody has symptoms.

The Big Ten looks on the edge of cancelling football/fall sports. They have cancelled practices with pads Monday. The Pac-Ten has a meeting Tuesday and look likely to shut down fall sports as well.
I don't see how the P-5 can play for a National Championship with 40% of the P-5 out. Today looks a lot like the day that March Madness started to fall apart.

If only the sec is left, we will get the true national champion. No other football even matters, right?

"I'm of the opinion it's when, not if [the 2020 season is canceled]," the first AD said. "[The MAC announcement] adds more momentum to the finish line. I think everyone's medical group is now all telling them the same thing. We all keep having the same conversations."
This is gonna make the decision to play up UAB Medicine's links to UAB Athletics come back to haunt the medical side. While other schools' medical teams are rightly advising them that this stuff is out of control, it's quickly going to look like UAB's infectious disease experts don't know what they're doing with advising the UA system to keep going full steam ahead

You know damn well that they didn't tell the BoT/Athletics that it was "full steam ahead". It's more like "Here are the guidelines to try to keep people safe if you are going to do this." I have not seen a single UAB immunologist say anything resembling that. If you have a link, pull it up.

You are good at throwing speculation and opinions out there and making it sound like fact.
I could speculate that maybe UAB meds have more working knowledge of the virus and are in a better position to give appropriate guidelines that some of these other schools and conferences.
There is no right decision, there is risk with any course taken. "Right" is only what fits with ones opinions and thoughts on the issue and not everyone is going to agree, no matter which stance is taken.

There is no risk of spreading a deadly virus at football games and football practice if they do not take place

Yes, but then the virus will just spread through other means instead. It is impossible to eliminate all risk. 18-22 year old kids are still going to go the bar, go to house parties, etc. The structure/rules dictating practice/game procedure and the health care/testing the universities provide will be much better for the athletes than just being in the general public.

a) just because they aren't playing football doesn't mean they shouldn't be getting tested
b) just because a house is burning to the ground doesn't mean you throw a propane tank into the fire
