I think it really boils down to three things.
1. Great coaching - Moore, Satterfield, and Drinkwitz were/are good coaches.
2. Great program - Moore once said 'Tradition does not graduate'. App State has been consistently an exceptional football program. It is the expectation from the administration, alum, and fans that App State shoot for conference champion every year. That said, Ga Southern is also a good program - and the Sun Belt was wise to get both App State and GS.
3. Success begets Success - When you are consistently winning year over year it helps a lot with recruiting, alumni funding, facilities, national recognition, etc. I think this is also why you see repeated National Championship trips for Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, etc. We are none of those, but the general idea is the same.
Other Sun Belt schools can certainly have those 3 as well, but not over night. It takes a long time of consistent success to get to that point. (which was the point of my initial response, we were not the champion once in a while, we are most of the time)
Another note: After we starting winning the National Championships we started getting better recruits, larger home crowds (and visiting crowds) more interest in the university at all levels. Even our Freshman class avg SAT scores starting going up as more students wanted to come to App State (especially in the state of NC).
I don’t mean this in a disrespectful way but that’s a lot of fluff. App state is in a good position graphically and a Destiination town not as well positioned as southern from a population standpoint but certainly from a Destiination standpoint. Expectation Are that you should compete at the highest level even when a bad hire is made at this point but the wheels will come off maybe not to the degree that we’ve experienced moving away from the option but the struggles will come now that you’ve entered the coaching revolving door like the rest of us. Drink gets zero credit and may well become a liability in time. Remember we had a one trick pony too. You’re simply late to the table. Ignoring the elephant in the room and all this chest thumping by App fans gives me gas.
I am a bit lost as to what you are trying to say, but...
I don't want to chest thump - just was pointing out our conference championships. I don't want to come across as a jerk. I am not taking our success for granted, all I am saying is that it isn't an accident.
I do think Drink to some degree rode some coat tales a bit, but I do think he is a good coach. At least he was last year.
Not sure what you are saying about one trick pony, or late to the table, point you are making - sorry. EDIT: I think I get what you are saying here. Bad coaching hires will slip up on us sooner or later - yes? It may or may not. Who knows.
Also, I don't expect App State to always be at the top. Clearly that is not likely. We will have bad years - surely. GS may get on a roll, or Louisiana, or any other Sun Belt team. My hopes, and expectations frankly, is that App State will continue to be a relevant football program for many years to come.
Sorry if that is more 'fluff'.
EDIT: I don't think the chest thumping is giving you gas, it is that you don't want to be considered second fiddle to App State. Maybe consider Tums?
Eventually you will have to pay the consequences of UNC cheating

I should point out that I spoke that post into my iphone. Sorry for the mess.
I've no problem with App enjoying the lime light. GS fans have witnessed every second of it and much of the second level success started with AE. It's simple. GS fans are bitter because we've had to let go of some great coaches over the years while our rival seemed to be impervious to it all. Your good because your suppose to be good as I personally see it. Only a whiff of a misstep with a new coach makes things tough. We whip yur ars again and you lose say 3 conference games you'll be sniffing our coat tails and if I may say you will not like the aroma.
