What are the best brands in the Sunbelt?? I'm not talking just football, but basketball and academics too. Would be interesting to see how everyone stacks up.
App State is the media darling of the conference right now despite them being a single sport power. In this conference, football alone is enough to make you the best brand. If you take academics and all other sports into account, I'm not so sure any schools stand above the rest.
When people think of the SBC they think football 90%, baseball 10%, and that's about it. With that context it's App right now, no caveats needed. ULL could take that crown over the next 24 months though.
I agree, its 90% Football and currently it is App State.

Academics, not sure, maybe Georgia State? but it’s not really a major factor in the SBC. Same in CUSA, academic wise they do have Rice (clear #1), and then maybe a distant second ranked UAB...rest is unranked.

(SEC same btw, Vanderbilt clear #1 in academics, followed by TX A&M, Georgia and maybe Florida. No idea how to rank the rest - interesting)
Id be curious to know from fan bases at each SBC school what they believe in their eyes they are the best at in the SBC, whether its a sport, academics. research, good looking fans, etc.

GS is probably overall the best athletic program. Just look at the how we finish on average in the top 3 sports plus soccer. We've struggled with women's sports, but are improving. We just dont dominate in a single sport like App has done with football.

Academics, probably GSU tops the SBC. But its not something that is a big deal at our level. We've all got good colleges and areas we excel at. GSU just gets a lot of research funding and has a big emphasis on post grad level education.

Fans, Going to give the homer vote to GS. TxSt gets tops for best looking. GS is a close second. Then its everyone else. GS just has a very fanatical base and wins enough to keep the excitement year to year.

Jmo.
Top football Appalachian
Top basketball GSU
Top baseball Cajuns/ Coastal
Overall GS

Parties and coeds lol

The the top half of brands have to include (in no particular order except App State):

App State
Troy
Arkansas State
Louisiana
Georgia Southern

App State for their recent success, the Michigan upset, and their FCS national titles. Troy for having the notable P5 wins and multiple SBC titles. Arkansas State for their consistency of winning and SBC titles. Louisiana for their run from 2011-2014, and now with Napier. Georgia Southern for their recent success, the triple option, and their FCS national titles.

Georgia State has given themselves a basketball brand, but their football still has some work to do.
Football: App, Troy (Southern was here before Summers, could be again soon)
Basketball: Georgia State (duh)
Baseball: Coastal Carolina (duh)
Research & Academics: Georgia State (top 10-15 among all G5s I'd say, including the AAC)

Georgia State is the highest.

problem with things like these, the data is 3-to 4 years old. for universities that are improving yearly, 3 to 4 yrs causes a huge discrepancy

cant disagree with this, and t.v. games will probably back that up. These 5 are probably getting the most screen time, and highest attendance.

I can see Louisiana being ranked 2nd in all these, so can we add softball. 03-lmfao also, does coming in 2nd in most things make us the #1 overall brand?

Georgia State is the highest.

Let’s just say App at the top for undergrad. GaState for postgrad.

That’s a solid G5 top five. Don’t sleep on Coastal.
Alright BRANDS not recent success:

Academics: Georgia State
Baseball: ULL (tie) Coastal (tie)
Football: App (tie) Southern (tie)
University Potential: Southern (tie), ULL (tie), and Texas St
Most Room to Grow (university): Texas St
Athletic Leadership: Ark St
Athletic Departments (all sports): ULL
Most potential athletic departments: Texas St (tie) and Southern (tie)
Best College town: Texas St
Most in-danger of being left behind: ULM
If I had to go to another school: Texas St
Best Overall: Texas St (tie), Southern (tie), ULL (tie) - all three have the potential to grow in all categories, geographically unique and academics improving.

Let’s just say App at the top for undergrad. GaState for postgrad.

This might be the best way to look at it if you have to condense it into one sentence.

BTW, I think that if App ever gets a push in the grad direction and moves over the threshold into the category of research school, there's a good chance they'll enter the USNWR national rankings at or above GSU's ranking. My undergrad school, Mercer, did this a few years back, and Mercer and App used to always hang around near each other in the regional rankings.

I see you've got a thing for Southern.
