Liberals are never scared to speak up. Why are conservatives?
Quote:A handful of friends and I have spoken privately about the crippling anxiety apparently only experienced by independents and right-leaners when politics comes up in a social setting. Right up until now, it was just a theory.

A new study confirms what we suspected all along: Liberals really do feel like they can spew their thoughts freely, while everyone else quivers with fear that anything they say might offend.

The Cato Institute, a libertarian think tank, published a study this week showing that overall, 62% of people in the United States believe that the current “political climate” keeps them from sharing their political opinions. Broken down by ideology, however, self-identified liberals and “strong” liberals were significantly more likely to feel comfortable airing their opinions than centrists or conservatives.

Respondents were asked whether they agreed or disagreed with the statement, “The political climate these days prevents me from saying things I believe because others might find them offensive.”

Among both conservatives and “strong” conservatives, 77% said they agreed with the sentiment that they mute themselves when it comes to politics. For centrists, 64% agreed.

But liberals were much more bold. Only about half of liberals said they feel the current climate prevents them from speaking their thoughts on politics out loud. As for “strong” liberals, nearly 60% disagreed with the statement.

And we wonder why modern opinion polls are consistently skewed. Honest centrists and right-leaners really are scared to say what they think.

It happens all the time. In a group setting, the first person to declare their opinion on President Trump or the police will invariably be a liberal. Everyone else will find that moment as perfect timing for refreshing their drink.

The Cato study doesn’t explore or even offer any guesses as to why, but it's obvious. Liberals are simply more likely to act out when presented with differing opinions. They are rarely exposed to other views — the entire national media and all of Hollywood entertainment reinforce their beliefs — and that means they have fewer inhibitions when it comes to being strident, rude, or even hysterical when they hear opinions that contradict their own.

Anyone reading this has probably had it happen to them. A liberal makes some sweeping declaration — something like, “Jeff Sessions is a racist” — and the conservative asks, “What makes you say that?” The liberal then replies with the fury of a dragon before they inevitably cry.

I’ve long held the view that liberals are far more likely to behave this way. The new study goes a long way toward proving it.

For me it's not about being scared, it's just that 1) it's pointless to have a discussion/debate with anyone who deals strictly on feelings and ignores facts and 2) doesn't know how to be civil.

I'm more than happy to engage in civil debate. Problem is that the very one who would want to engage in civil debate most likely shares my views.

People act like this should be a surprise. Its not hard to figure out why people feel that way. In fact, its the strongest evidence in existence of a ultra-hard left bias to mass media propaganda slop being served up as "news" and entertainment. Its in every news report, its in every late night show, and that preachy view is found in most forms of entertainment. Left--is good, just, and proper. Meanwhile, the Right are racist Hitler like despots who want dirty air, dirty water, and hate minorities. Its a simplistic world view based on bumper sticker science. There is zero evidence to support that view---but its literally the entire basis for the modern day Democrat Party.

The mass propaganda war was won years ago by the left everywhere but on talk radio....and I suspect talk radio's days are numbered. If you this is about Trump---your an idiot. They called Bush racist--both of them---older and younger. They said Romney was a racist too. Plus, the press claimed Romney hated dogs and women as well. The press turned on McCain during his presidential campaign and that desperate fool spent the last years of his life trying to win back their adoration. He finally did it by becoming a Democrat.

Just save up your indignation and religiously vote Republican every 2 years. Yeah, dont take off the non-presidential elections. Those off year elections are important.

Conservatives tend to be pacifist. Liberals tend to be warmongers.

House down the street from me has Support Trump signs about every 20ft down his fence. Someone came through and spray painted over them. It is a simple issue of not wanting to make myself a target. Doesnt matter if you are scared or not, it isnt like they will knock on the door to tell you they are vandalizing your property. You just wake up to find it already happened.

Exactly, voting to me is my kick to the nuts of the Demons. The Demons and their followers can spew all the vitriol they want and I'll just ignore them. My son told me I should wear a MAGA cap but why bring unneeded misery to my life. I have enough of that, I don't need more. I don't feel I have to head over to the insurance company to fix something the Demons broke on my car, I don't need to head to the insurance company for them to compensate me for damage to my house. No one needs to know how I lean in politics but the people counting my votes.

This is how you kick the Demons in the nuts.

Most of the people I know well know who I root for and it sure isn't a commie politician.

My late father gave me great advise. When it comes to politics you are better off not letting everyone know how you feel. Just vote and let that speak for you.

Only right leaning folks are being fired, doxxed, and nationally shamed through harassment for having an opinion. Is it worth it, if you can just make your voice heard on the ballots in November.

We’re on the way to a civil war, either way.

Actually, liberals who don't sufficiently follow talking points are being doxxed, harrassed and fired as well.

They are purifying their ranks. Once they are done the Republicans will win elections for decades but will also become more Liberal because of the influx of Democrat Party refugees. Its not a win for Conservatives even if they win at the ballot box.

Conservatives may be uncomfortable sharing their opinions but, in my experience, they are DEFINITELY going to share them anyway. No matter the time, no matter the place.

RE: Liberals are never scared to speak up. Why are conservatives?
I think the biggest lies conservatives on here (and probably elsewhere) tell themselves are that they largely want civil discussions and that they operate under this system of cold, hard facts.

On our very own Spin Room we had a doxxing incident when a group of conservatives doxxed a liberal poster. Was that an example of conservatives being their usual civil selves?

 I guess that was civil behavior though.

Nobody has asked me as an individual. I also stay away from strictly economic discussions because they are usually just a bunch of other people who don't know anything further than Micro talking past each other.

Dude, we've never had a cross word. Now, if you want to talk about my feelings on healthcare, you could probably search "Bismarck" and I'd be in there agreeing with Bismarck healthcare. Taxation or tariffs, I haven't talked about so much.

Education is one of the things that I actually think are worth talking about. In fact, I'm in the last one.

You don't want to know my position, you'd just rather assume, which is ok with me. If you want to know it, search it. You can even see the evolution over the years. I've been here since I was 18.
