RE: ODU schedule with travel limitations/geographic schedule
If we play a restricted/ modified schedule you can kiss the bowl games goodbye so the 2 FCS rule is out the window, bowl-eligible wont mean anything this year. If CUSA doesn't restrict us I say play whoever we can to replace the teams who cant play us even if its FCS teams.

ODU schedule with travel limitations/geographic schedule
I am not sure I understand the reason for cancelling non conference games. Is it to limit the number of games or to limit the amount of travel. If it is the latter, I don't really get the benefit, as pretty much all of these teams are travelling via chartered planes, which doesn't seem to pose a significant risk.

I see both sides, yeah, cancel a game with a huge travel burden, but keep UVA/Wake and ODU. Those games are a lot easier that say UVA-Georgia Tech.

I take it as the power conferences are trying to protect its tv money and saying that the covid testing of their programs are at a higher standard than say a G5 conference or FCS can do.

RE: ODU schedule with travel limitations/geographic schedule
This is my thought as well. I think these conferences are coming up with their own protocols and only want to travel to places that have these same protocols. They probably figured trying to come up with these rules that all conferences will agree with would be impossible.

RE: ODU schedule with travel limitations/geographic schedule
Yeah, I think it has less to do with travel but more to do with testing expectations. If UVA is testing athletes weekly and ODU is testing bi-weekly, it doesn't matter if they are 200 miles away or 2000 miles away. This is why all sports that are serious about returning are using the bubble concept where all athletes have the same expectations are in the same location and are being tested on similar schedules (UFC, Top Rank Boxing, TBT and eventually the NBA/NHL). The sports that are leaving it more open (baseball) will run into more problems. I don't foresee college sports happening this Fall, just not feasible.

I would assume cost of chartering a plane with no revenue coming in being an issue.

I would think a better plan for all (if there is actually football) would be to only play teams within a bus ride. Quarantine the guys together, drive up and play the game. Then test and repeat. A schedule of ODU, LU, UVA, VT, Marshall, ECU, Navy, JMU, Maryland, NC St. would be incredible. Although we might go 0-fer.

RE: ODU schedule with travel limitations/geographic schedule
At this point I prefer that all conferences agree to delay the season until spring 2021. Hopefully there will be much fewer new cases by then. That would put the start of the season at about the time the outbreak started to ramp up in the US. Maybe enough time for this thing to run its course? Maybe not, it may take more like 1.5 years.
Even if the season is delayed to spring, there probably would still be conference games only, and no bowls. Starting play in early March would mean a 12 game season would run through early June.

Delaying until March would allow more time for the virus spreading to reduce. But January works too, though the northern schools may prefer a later start date.

Woo doogie! Marshall? 8 hours bus ride, 5 hours to warm up and play the game, 8 hours home? My butt hurts just thinking about it.
