I would miss UConn if only for the lost opportunities to relive the the 2002/2006 Randy Edsall-Paul Johnson exchange.
But from the perspective of a Navy fan, I do appreciate what UConn gave to the conference. We joined a BCS auto-qualifier conference in January 2012, and then sat on the sidelines while that conference took hit after hit - the subsequent departures, the Boise reversal dragging SDSU out, the "C7" decision...through it all, the three holdovers of BigEast football were one last life jacket. At that time UConn had a BCS bowl and MBB national championships, and then got one more MBB natty wearing the AAC patch. UConn WBB was an undeniable national brand for the American to claim, too, when everything was working against the conference in negotiating with media partners.
In the time that Navy was waiting to consummate the deal, and a lot of things were going downhill quickly, UConn was arguably one of the few brand value programs, if not the best, keeping afloat the conference we were joining.
That may have changed between the 2013 media deal and the 2019 deal, but this conference wouldnt be where it is today if UConn hadnt been in the fold in the 2012-13 timeframe.
The changes from 2013 to 2019 left UConn ultimately unsatisfied with the AAC. I agree with Aresco's overall assessment "We thought that discontent was misguided." And at the same time I think that UConn made the right strategic choice for UConn to go to the BigEast. I'm disappointed they bailed on the overall P6 idea, but I see their path and their choice.
Good luck in the Big East. Good luck with the path for MBB and WBB.
I'll watch your independent FBS journey with interest after 134 years of successful Navy football independence.
I hope the quality UConn posters stick around here, and while I don't expect any Navy-UConn matchups reach out to me here if you're ever in Annapolis.
July 1st - its official - UConn is gone. Will there be champagne in Storrs tonight.
The AAC is now 10 all sport schools, 1 FB only, and 1 BB/Olympic school for its major revenue sports.
A new era begins for UConn FB and and the AAC minus another top tier school with the big question yet to be answered. Who replaces UConn in the AAC, and when, if UConn is replaced at all?

Quote:Navy and Connecticut engaged in a two-game, home-and-home series during the tenures of head coaches Randy Edsall and Paul Johnson. In 2002, the Huskies held the Mids to just three first downs and a mere 82 total yards in a 38-0 rout at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
That game still ranks as one of the worst offensive performances of the current triple-option era at Navy and Edsall rankled Johnson with what he whispered during the post-game handshake between the two.
"Don't worry, I won't share this tape to anyone," Edsall reportedly told Johnson, implying that he had solved the triple-option.
It was a completely different story in the rematch at Rentschler Field four years later as Navy exploded for 605 total yards (464 rushing) in a 41-17 rout of Connecticut. During his post-game press conference, Johnson revealed what Edsall had previously said and admitted he couldn't resist a rejoinder.
"You can send this tape to anyone you want," Johnson told Edsall when they met at midfield afterward.
It was originally a four game series, but UConn cancelled the remaining games.
2002 was Johnson's first year. Opened (I see you, other current conference mates) and closed (Beat Army!) the season with wins but that was all. That year and the two that got Charlie Weatherbie canned gave Navy a 3-30 record before we embarked on the sustained success of 2003-2019
