RE: Trayvon Martin's mother calls for more cops, says she disagrees to defund police

I talk to deputies every day, most are average joes. Even the ones are skirt the law that I know (except for a pretty highly publicized few) wouldn’t HURT someone unnecessarily. I spoke to one who has been pretty frustrated with the department because “man, they send us out to sh*t we aren’t even close to trained for.” I’ve talked to deputies who started in the 60s and their former sheriff who started in the 50s, who told me that his first Sheriff started in the 30s. Policing, besides technology and what they’re looking for, has not really changed since those early days and the systems in which they operate have not prepared them to change.
Step one is what you mentioned; having a personal connection to those on the force. The next step I think is that we need to clean up many of the laws on the books that we have police respond to, especially drug related ones. Honestly, outside Of violent criminals, how much of what the police do require hot pursuit?
Drugs are the big one. I feel like if any department is going to corruption in 2020, it’s going to be from the drug guys. You never see this stuff from the guys who just serve papers.
We were just spitballing ideas one day and somebody came up with having a deputized social worker, who can go to things that deputies aren’t really trained in (domestics, child abuse, drug use, etc). A couple thought it sounded like a bad idea because they’d have an awful lot to respond to. That’s how you know you might need them.
Nothing gets police killed more than domestic disputes. What you are proposing would mean a lot of dead social workers. And they get paid less than police.

Media keeps repeating lies.
True, but Zimmerman's pursuit of Martin led to an altercation IMO. The ensuing but whopping is what led to a gun being drawn.
There wasn't much of a pursuit. Zimmerman was walking back to his car when Martin sucker punched him and dam near beat him to death.

Hang on.. Defunding the police is hyperbole. It doesn't mean what it sounds like.

Deputized. Have officers with that type of training and pay them for it.

How is it that these slogans can't be taken at face value? One needs to have it contextualized to fully appreciate the goal.

I'm just repeating the talking points someone else regurgitated here.
