And now a former 4-star OL transfers from Georgia to Rice. Welcome to South Main Street, Chad.

SMU quarterback Shane Buechele and wide receiver Reggie Roberson were named the best quarterback and wide receiver in Texas, according to Dave Campbell's Texas Football's All-Texas College Teams released this week.

Buechele and Roberson were named to the first team, joined by tight end Kylen Granson and offensive tackle Jaylon Thomas. The Mustangs led the way with first team offensive selections with four while no other team had more than two.

C'mon now... What do you mean little ole SMU?!? SMU is been in FBS football since 1915... You guys are a well respected FBS program.
Highly unlikely. The Football Bowl Subdivision wasn’t created until like the mid 90’s.

ECU shows highly recruited South Carolina transfer O'Mega Blake the door after just one semester. Was a common no-show for classes, weight training, and player-led workouts. I think the staff somewhat knew what they were getting after a PITA transfer/NIL negotiation, but didn't know how much they had in the WR room and needed Spring camp bodies.

Hearing he might find a landing spot at UNCC if they are willing to take a gamble on him.

I do not think it is wise for a coach to negatively comment on players leaving the program. If appeasing fans is the goal, going through a third party (e.g., beat writer) seems the better route.

None of them referenced him personally, but there was a collective vibe.

The link between the two events is clear to the extent it is obvious to outside observers. Baker darted Blake, no doubt. If it was appropriate and fruitful is another matter.

No show for team workouts, no show for classes, had personal financial issues (despite pocketing thousands in NIL)... and was a toxic personality in the locker room. The team voted him out.

No joke, the word is he is trending towards Charlotte.

LoL good luck with him, Niners.

You can design all you want, but approval to build the actual thing is a big step. Congrats 9ers.

Could be - but he was also a problem down in Columbia.

If he does come to Charlotte, I hope he gets things turned around. He's supposedly pretty talented. Just not a good fit for our culture.

COLUMN: This week I dive into an unexpected conference title contender — Rice.

Yes, that Rice. A team returning 17 starters that I left last weekend's spring game seeing at a major tipping point that could lead to an AAC championship.

Thanks for posting. This sums up my good vibe from the Spring game (but maybe that was also the free ice cold Yuenglings). It’s been a long time since I felt this positive about Rice football, and now we have the Georgia OL transfer.

But truth be told, I’d trade the AAC championship for another hoisting of the Bayou Bucket trophy in front of a crowd of sad Cougar fans at TDECU!

Rice fight never dies.
