The Post Office names a new Postmaster General
https://federalnewsnetwork.com/agency-ov...r-general/

The USPS Board of Governors announced today a new Postmaster General to lead the post office, and it's a big Donald Trump supporter and friend of his in North Carolina business executive Louis DeJoy. He's the chairman and CEO of New Breed Logistics, a company based in Greensboro I think?

I've got mixed feelings on this. DeJoy actually has some unique skills and expertise to lead the post office, and one would suspect that he wouldn't agree to become Postmaster General if his sole plan is to privatize the institution. But at the same time, there is no question that DeJoy and Trump are step-and-step on a lot of different matters (he's a big Republican fundraiser, and his wife was nominated a couple of months ago by Trump to be the new Ambassador to Canada).

So what does this mean for the post office? My best guess is any possibility of a loan in a future stimulus package will now be tied in for sure to three things - raising shipping fees primarily on packages (mostly to Amazon, but also to UPS which is a big partner of the post office and perhaps FedEx although FedEx doesn't do a ton of business anymore with the post office), cutting the massive corporate overhead, and forcing the USPS unions on some big concessions. It also could have an impact on any future plans to allow more people to vote by mail in November, although I think that will be more of a matter for Congress to decide and not the Postmaster General?

So I'll keep an open mind on this - it actually could be a move I agree with Trump on. Hopefully it will work out for the best.

Fear that the dems won't be able to election rig packaged in a concern post. So obvious. Cant win on ideas. Steal elections.

What I don't understand about some USPS locations, why do so many locations not have stamp Kiosks? You have to wait in line to buy stamps. You can buy stamps at Kiosks and ATM machines elsewhere. It seems the suburban locations have stamp Kiosks and self serve weight machines for packages......in the city locations not the case.

I know the USPS has to stay competitive but I'd have little issue with a postage rate increase. I mean, mailing a letter to freaking Alaska from the east coast costs less than a dollar. That is beyond weird if one considers all the costs involved. Anway, I know USPS can't increase to cover the entire costs to to competitive reasons; however, increasing costs a little wouldn't be the end of the world, IMO.

When is the USPS going to start charging the correct fees from items shipped from other countries to the USA? I really haven't shipped much in the past few years but I believe any package under 16 oz you can ship first class and that's in the $3+ range.

The same item bought and shipped from China cost the shipper in China around .12 cents to get it delivered to your front door. Dont talk about raising prices till that is corrected. How many items from China is delivered to our door each day? I would think easily over 100k just from ebay

Look for Amazon to get the boot. They have been killing the USPS for years. I know many carriers and they say it is ridiculous. They say around Christmas they can barely get all of the packages in the truck. At $4.95/package it is a huge loser. The biggest reason for the loss is the Sunday delivery. Paying a carrier double time to deliver ONLY Amazon packages on Sunday at $5/package. They may deliver 20 packages on Sunday, but it costs 2 to 3 times the fee to actually do it. Only the government can blow that kind of money. Let's get them in control of everything.

This! Costs $x amount of dollars to ship stuff outside the country, but like less than 1/3rd of that to ship INTO the US.

I've already noticed a sizable %price increase when ordering repeat purchases from AMZN...

a widget that cost $55.00 6 mos. ago, is now ~$65.00 which translates to an ~18% increase in price....

#muhChineseInflated

I'm easily starting to dump AMZN and took the 30% gain out of the my daughters solo share and went 30/30/40 in her Roth....I'm still training her how to manage $$$ and what that means relative to long term investing....

so many irons in the fire now....
