Oxford might have vaccine available by September
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/oxford-univ...-covid-19/

Encouraging news out of England. A promising vaccine is already being mass produced in India and has been quickly developed by scientists at Oxford University.

The vaccine takes the coronavirus' genetic material and injects it into a common cold virus that has been neutralized so it cannot spread in people. The modified virus will mimic COVID-19, triggering the immune system to fight off the imposter and providing protection against the real thing.

The experimental vaccine has reportedly worked in protecting rhesus macaque monkeys that were exposed to heavy quantities of COVID-19. (Don't worry about the monkeys, they were all given banana masks as a reward for participating in the trial).

In the human trials, 550 participants are given the vaccine, and another 550 receive a placebo.

Democrats should shelter in place until then, just to be sure.

Somes got a LOT more “scoop”than somes other.

Thank you for your service Gen. Flynn.

Sloe? You’re toast.

Sorry

Oxford Grad Student Fears 'White Males' at Her University Might Develop the Coronavirus Vaccine

Quote:As the coronavirus pandemic ravages the world, identity politics appears to have taken a backseat to fighting the virus. Yet on Saturday, Emily Cousens, a research assistant at Oxford University, said she doesn’t want her university to win the “coronavirus vaccine race” — because it would make Britain proud and might teach the wrong lessons about medical progress. Specifically, she worried about China looking bad and the West — full of those evil “white males” — looking good.

The Democrats might have found their female vice presidential candidate. Don’t worry about Ms. Cousens not being born a US citizen. They’ve done it before and they’ll do it again.

They're already trying it out

Some people get strange pleasure out of taking risks for the rest of us
Some people want the money. I don't know what the are being paid, but i recall a while back (before it was this bad) people being offered $5,000 to be exposed so they could be studied.

The risks of the disease to generally healthy people is not extreme. They'd get sick, but easily survive and they're clearly getting the best healthcare around. Some of them might be doing it for 3 hots and a cot.

This is neat. I think they are trying to attack cancer in the same sort of way.

I also thought this was interesting...

Quote:Wasting no time, the largest drugmaker in the world, based in India, will start producing millions of the Oxford vaccines by next month, even before they've been proven to work.

So basically that company is betting everything this drug works or it is going to flush lots of money down the proverbial drain.

I saw that article... cool stuff indeed

the concept has been done before, but using the common cold I think is at least fairly unique to treat something other than the common cold.

as to the investment, imagine the value of that patent... If this doesn't work, they'll make the same investment in the next and the next and the next... at some point, the money they'll invest won't matter.

from memory, could be wrong, most of what that company does is generics... so they're probably a low margin cash cow with no better place to invest right now.

Right out of the Dems playbook in this country.

Prior to joining Oxford Brookes, Emily completed both her BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics and MA in Women’s Studies at the University of Oxford. Emily is an experienced researcher, having worked in this role for community and policy organisations.

Is this a thing? And do they charge people for a degee in this? This sounds like a complementary degree someone can get from Reader's Digest or something.
