RE: amashforamerica.com
politically and practically speaking, libertarians simply don't exist. they hold no high office, they have no leader, and they have no established legislative agenda.
they're like sub-atomic particles. you have to infer their existence of libertarians from their effect upon known quantities. usually, that means that they suck off just enough votes from a republican in order to elect an extremist liberal to high office. comically enough, they usually blame republicans once liberal agendas are enacted.
in this particular case, since trump has realigned the political orbits of the parties, I am actually a bit disappointed that the-attention-whore-whos-name-escapes-me-at-the-moment isn't running.

Neither do republicans, although they have the other things. Republicans have no passion because they have nothing to be passionate about. Trump is passionate about some things. Unfortunately, I don't agree within on his two biggies--the wall and tariffs--and he clearly does not have a comprehensive across-the-board agenda. But on the legislative side, Mitch McConnell couldn't lead a sex addict to a whorehouse, and McCarthy is so innocuous that I don't even know what his first name is.
Democrats on the other hand are very passionate. They're Alinsky passionate and they're perfectly willing to destroy the country to get their way. I despise Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi, but I wish republicans had leaders half as passionate as they are.
The problem is that when passion meets mediocrity, passion wins. Every time. I understand the democratic vision. It's a country where I don't want to live. I'm counting on republicans to fight for me. But so far they're doing a piss-poor job of it.
The last time republicans got passionate was Newt's contract in 1994. They won their biggest electoral victory by having a message and staying on it. But then they lost the plot, I think because Newt is a great idea guy but you can't leave him in charge of anything.

"passion" lies, almost exclusively, on the part of the liberals, who want to increase the size and scope of the central government.
almost by definition, the effort to reduce the size and scope of the central government is a "passionless" endeavor.
at the end of the day, your whole theory of "passion" being a functioning aspect of republican (or any other) politics is senseless.
if you're looking for "passion", brother, I would humbly submit to you that you misunderstand the equation.

I'm sorry, but I want somebody who wants passionately to make changes in the other direction, away from where the progressives want to go. Not somebody who sits around with his thumb up his butt like McConnell or McCarthy or Ryan or Boehner. I'm counting on them to save me from the progressives, and they aren't getting it done.

ok. I see some things more clearly now. so, you like utterly ineffective and bottomlessly guys folks, like, say, rand paul -- and please don't reply to this with how you just had lunch with him, because God knows that is incredibly annoying for all of us -- who looked like a homeless person in the recent senate hearings.

I want somebody who is going to fight against the Alinsky socialist/communist "progressives." And fight to win. And republicans aren't doing that and it pisses me off.
The only thing McConnell has done is judges, and that's because the one group of repubicans that is passionate about anything--Evangelical Christians and anti-abortion--have been pushing the judges thing forever.

We have a binary system of electoral politics. We should be choosing between sides. This is literally how **** works in our country. Yet the Libertarians get to pretend to be aloof and wish for their nirvana. Hint to GTS and Owl#s, it ain’t happening.
You can choose to influence one side or the other, and I think an awful lot of us, left and right, would appreciate the influence of Libertarians. But you’d rather act like petulant children and grasp at the 5% thinking it’ll ever make a difference.

I know that. But right now the choices are between one side that's worthless and the other that is light years worse.
