In rank order:

6. UTSA
7. TTU
8. TXST
9. UTEP
10. Rice
11. TCU
12. NTSU

Chronicle will have to update their state rankings as #11 TCU just knocked off #1 (#9 nationally) UT in Austin. Maybe the Owls will move up since they haven’t looked bad (or good) against anyone yet?
It's UNT, not NTSU.

Tomball Owl already acknowledged that error back on Tuesday:
Tomball Owl Wrote:And my apologies for referring to North Texas as NTSU rather than UNT. Old habits. UNT fans, feel free to refer to the Owls as Rice Institute or the University of Rice, as some of our recruits do. At least I didn't call Texas State Southwest Texas State!

Per The Roost, 5 Rice players missed practice today. One tested positive and the others out due to contact tracing.

RE: Will there be a football season?
Rice makes national football "news", kinda...
Quote:3. Southern Missed (0-3)
MTSU is not currently scheduled to play Southern Miss. No, not because the Blue Raiders and the Golden Eagles would be a horrible color combination for anyone outside of UCLA or a macaw aviary. It's because they are in separate divisions of Conference USA. But what if, in our ceaseless push to create a Bottom 10 Playoff, we take a page from the other B10, the Big Ten, and its plans to host cross-division matchups based on the final regular-season standings. In other words, the morning of the December TBD C-USA title game, let these two presumptive last-place teams play as the undercard. Then let the winner of this game immediately play Rice, because at this rate, I'm beginning to think that's the only game Rice gets to play this season.
linkty: Sooner or later, LSU and Oklahoma geaux into the Bottom 10
I hear the AD is revamping our imagery again...changing the mascot to the Rice Chickens.

Wasn’t Rice the Chicken Hawks a while back?

That would make us like Iowa State. They could be the Red Chickens, we could be the Blue Chickens.
Technically, it is a Cardinal but everybody I know up there refers to them as the Red Chickens.

RE: Will there be a football season?
Owls drop to #11 in Chronicle’s Texas College football rankings replacing last week’s #11 TCU which jumped to #2 after beating last week’s #1 UT.
Undefeated SMU jumps to #1. Undefeated (and winless, like the Owls) UH jumps to #3.
1. SMU (4-0)
2. TCU (1-1)
3. UH (0-0)
4. UT (2-1)
5. TAMU (1-1)
6. Baylor (1-1)
7. UTSA (3-1)
8. TT (1-2)
9. TXSt (1-3)
10. UTEP (3-1)
11. Rice (0-0, but did scrimmage)
12. UNT (1-2)

Related to this: I think Bloomgren said in his social media video interview that we only have two running backs this fall. Apparently some opt-outs? That's why Griffin played the whole scrimmage.

No opt outs. Only 2 available for scrimmage because of injuries/covid contact tracing.

UH defeats Tulane 49-31.
Rice now the only FBS school in Texas that has not played a football game this fall.

RE: Will there be a football season?
On Thursday Baylor temporarily suspended all football activities due to COVID-19 concerns.
The Baylor statement reads: "As a precautionary measure, Baylor Athletics has suspended all football-related activities to allow for further evaluation of recent positive tests and the completion of close contact tracing."
Baylor Director of Athletics Mack B. Rhoades said, "We are taking all possible precautions and our focus remains playing the scheduled game with Oklahoma State at McLane Stadium on October 17."
Also on Thursday: Kansas coach Les Miles tested positive for COVID-19.

Not surprising when you have a President and Admin who don't give a damn about sports. In fact they seem to care about international students then their own athletes.

This weekend's FAU - USM game was also canceled as FAU does not have enough players to play.
