That was my initial conclusion as well (he mailed in 2019 but does not have his refund yet), but after hearing about deaths in 2018 still getting refunds, it made me question.
It's in the Act, read it yesterday, think it is Section 2012 or close. If filing for 2019 hasn't been done they revert to 2018. So, if someone passed between, had they filed joint for 2018 they'd be eligible.
For any of you getting the $$$ for the kids, any of you have a college age dependent 18-22 that has gotten a check/DD?
As with the conversation yesterday with WKU (I think) they may well have been left out. They're no longer minors, but they are still dependents. If I'm reading the eligibility section correctly that's a pretty big F$%^ up by the House.
If they are claimed as a dependent they get nada
I can confirm this. Anyone claimed as a dependent will not be getting a check.
It goes way beyond kids though. Elderly living with family who get claimed as a dependent will not get jack. Anyone in financial trouble who is staying with family this year and claimed as a dependent will not get jack.
That's messed up because some of those people are the poorest and need it the most.
Not true. SEVERAL of my daughter's friends that live at home and work and file taxes have gotten the $1200. She has gotten nothing and made more than the auto deduction last year and actually paid taxes. We got nothing for her. She is 19. I would be pissed if I had triplets that were seniors in high school and had jobs and were all of a sudden unemployed and got nothing from this. My daughter graduated with triplets in her class.

It is true. I tried to set up my nephew through the government portal and he was denied specifically because his mother had filed him as a dependent. It said straight up that he was not eligible because he was a dependent on someone else's taxes, whcih made him ineligible.

Yes, the authorized signer. His name will be on the equivalent of the memo line.
For no apparent reason other than the guy's a baby with an unquenched ego. It's not his money and he doesn't get to spend it regardless, that's congress' job.
And no, this is not a big deal other than if it delays someone who really needs the money by having them wait another day or more. But ask yourself, why. Why on earth does he need to do this asinine **** that N O N E of you would tolerate had it come from a democratic administration.
I imagine he just wants the personal satisfaction of knowing that tons of people that wanted him impeached will be cashing the Trump bucks with his name on it. Yep..He is a total egomaniac. Enjoy your bucks Red. I personally don't really want or need the money..but... Im going to spend mine on new set of golf clubs and a bag just to stimulate the economy. Doing my civic duty.

If you don't have direct deposit on file with the IRS you'll get a check. Although, there are several reports of money going to tax preparers and other banks and tax services instead of directly to the taxpayers. These things are to be expected with such a huge undertaking.
Good luck...

Have not heard yet whether this is intentional, just an overlooked mistake, or if the money will need paid back or reported on the 2020 tax return. According to the IRS statements, none of this is supposed to be taxable.

Right. That’s what I said.
Why?
Why does the 13 month old babbling baby get a $500 check but the part-time/summer worker, also going to school full time get stiffed?
Why single out that age group and population? Major f#%^ up by the House and trust me, plenty of us are letting these Reps know about it.
They can’t govern, $20.00 pints of ice cream aside.
Vote em out. Vote em Alllllllll out.

They will have to ask their parents for their $500
Except once the kids turn 17 (at any point in the year that you're using for filing purposes), you don't get the $500. We got $500 for my 15/16 year old - we didn't get anything for my 17/18 year old
Right.
And how screwed up is that?
“They’re old enough, they should be working”. Ok great. Except you shut the f#%^ing economy down.
College kids might be fat, drunk and stupid, but they ain’ dumb. Plenty are catching wind of this and are not too happy about it.

It's because I owed. I figured they would still have my info on file since they drafted my account, but it appears they are only using it if you got a refund.
Good to know for you self-employed & 1099 guys.
Quote:Even if you filed your 2018 or 2019 taxes electronically, that doesn't mean the IRS can direct-deposit the money into your bank account. You must have also received a refund in those years via direct deposit to get the money delivered automatically.
The IRS is not using bank account information it may have used to withdraw from your account if you owed money.

I think this makes sense as they can't guarantee the account you paid from is the account you want to refund sent to. If you've gotten refunds in the past, you've already told the IRS you want money to go TO that account.

Again. My daughter is 19 and is a full time student and has(had) a full time job. She made over $15k last year and had a tax liability as she has filed for both 2018 and 2019. She pays a lot of her own bills and has no income right now. She filed Unemployment over 3 weeks ago and has called all day everyday since, and FINALLY talked to someone at the unemployment office after pressing 2 for Spanish speaking people last night at 10pm. They picked up in like 5 minutes of being on hold and spoke English. The reason she is not getting her Unemployment is because she changed jobs within the past 18 months. How stupid is that? So if you took a better job last year for more pay, you are being penalized. Also, she has friends that are her age and younger than her that live at home and their parents claim as dependents that HAVE gotten $1200.

A bunch are in the mail today although it might be being done alphabetical (by last name)? I saw a pretty long line at the bank coming home and was wondering why and then I realized oh yeah, they all got their stimulus checks.

A check. I had recently closed the bank account they had on file. Actually today I read the checks are being prioritized by income (lowest first).
