The question is how would we go about fully separating from those who are "at risk?" Like how many people who are in the low risk groups live with/are primary caregivers to at risk people? What's the plan for that? We gonna like round up all the old people and put them in designated old people containment units? Like I get the idea, but it would take massive levels of planning and coordination to actually fully quarantine the at risk populations. Not to mention with the incubation period being so long and you seemingly being contagious even before symptoms show this probably would have needed to be something we did ahead of time like a few weeks ago.

Hold up here, “old people containment units” ... As an old people I have some questions:

What’s the age to get in?
Where are they located?
Do I have to bring my fiancé?
Can I request to be somewhere near the beach?

While I agree with the sentiment, it isn’t possible.

Those with the lowest risk may bring it home to those at more risk and never have symptoms of the virus.

So if you’re a hermit under the age of 35 or 40, with no children or grandchildren, or don’t have a girlfriend or the prospects of ever having one, go for it. Just make sure you stay away from your parents and grandparents.

At this point everyone in this country should know who the at risk are. So that's exactly what we should do. Those at risk should have very limited, necessary, contact, with everyone. If they live with their son or daughters they should be spending every minute of the next 2 to 4 weeks in their bedroom. Talk should be by phone or video. Food sit outside their door and they should get it with mask and gloves on.

That is a helluva lot easier to do than what we are doing today. Plus it doesnt shutdown the world.. But it should be THEIR choice and if the old and at risk refuse to live that way for a few weeks. People die every day by choices we make and made.

Some people cant remove their heart from a problem to see the outcome clearly. No one wants old people to die, no one. Well old white men, maybe. Oprah, and a lot of those far left would love to see that.

I have tons of compassion but since early on I've been able to see problems for what they are. Then remove the emotion from it to find the best outcome.

If you are going to do what's best for everyone, you have to face that problem like someone with a heart of stone. Without that, it doesnt get fixed. Or if it does the outcome might be worse, long term, than the fix.

No politician wants to say what you said and what I've said. But if you took all the emotion out of it the simple answer would be....

the sick, the old and sick, that this virus is going to cause 99% of the deaths, maybe even as high as 99.5%. To address how as a country we make those people stay away from others for a few weeks. While the world went on and those that are going to catch this, do just that. Deal with it like the common cold that it will affect most people. The flu for all the others.

No need for anyone not in that risk group going to the hospital, unless they have trouble breathing or a very high fever.

By May this would be behind us and not 1/10 of the damage to clean up.

Maybe I'm heartless, dont think so because, things hurt me like those i'm around. But I'm also able to see things for what they are. Death is a part of life. Leave it up to the risk group if they want to remove themselves for a few weeks. Or if they see the risk and want to chance it.

I think we both have family that would be in that risk group and our self not far removed from it

RE: Libertarian POV
My wife and I have been self quarantined for about a year now. The only place I go without her is to the local fishing hole and get together with friends to talk about everything. I'm home usually 3 to 4 hours later. That's about it except to get chow from the store or fast food joint. That's why I'm here all the time, you guys are my window into the world. Quite a BIG change from just two years ago when we went out constantly. We would have been at risk then.
