Most of the people who have gotten this are recovered. This is just really pisses me off ,not for the tournament, but its a sign that the media and its political motives are now disrupting our lives.

Are you talking about the Italian media? Chinese? This is a different critter from our past flu outbreaks. These precautions may prevent a pandemic. Then you'll probably come back with it's no big thing.
This is turning in to a political issue, and that is shameful.

Why is everybody surprised by this? Commissioner Steinbrecher doesn't want MAC basketball making MAC football look bad. Isn't it part of the MACtion contract that league games are played with the stands half empty?

West Coast and, obviously, Ivy which has restricted the players also.

The West Coast? The game is on now in Vegas with humans in the stands.

Big West—-my bad.....apologies!

All good...thanks for the info.

This all smells of yet another big media hoax to me. You can all mock me if you want, I can take it. 04-cheers04-cheers

There's going to be a good documentary on Netflix about this in one to two years. Probably better than the Fyre Fest one.

I think we are to the point where we all would do anything to see half filled stands for MACtion

No if you dont want anyone to ever have the flu again, keep kids out of school, ground air travel, do not hold elections, have everyone telework from home, etc. This was a complete and total over-reaction

Honestly, I had the queazy feeling MD would’ve contracted coronavirus if he attended this week. Thank you Steinbrecher for saving him from this outbreak and keeping him in Huskie Nation.

RE: MAC TOURNEY RESTRICTING ATTENDANCE
I think the overreaction to the MAC not allowing fans is a little outrageous. While I do not agree with the decision, I studied Public Health including some Epidemiology and what we are seeing now is just the beginning due to the lack in testing. The death rate will certainly go down but there is still too much uncertainty at this point in time. The fact that some people are prioritizing a basketball game over the health of millions of people is quite sad.

Your math is flawed, CV mortality rate is 3.5%, seasonal flu is typically less than 1%.

RE: MAC TOURNEY RESTRICTING ATTENDANCE
To some extent, we can blame the internet. 20 years ago, no one would have known or really cared.
The flu happens every year, people in the age group who are at risk by this new flu are just as vulnerable to the known versions. There are only 4300 or so deaths in the world. More people die from the known versions every year. Is this a bad thing. Of course it is.
Is this an over reacting??? yes.

No one lives in a bubble.

Whats even worse, is people are buying months worth of toilet paper at Costco. Bottled water and other things are getting hard to find in stores. Its hard to believe that when 4 identified cases in the entire state of NV (where I live now) are mentioned, people panic. A elementary student was possibly exposed to the virus and they shut down a school to wipe it clean. reopen the next day. I understand people are jumpy these days, but it is totally beyond me why they panic if the wind blows.

My take on it is this. Encourage everyone you know to flock to Costco and buy everything to stay secluded for 1-3 months until it passes. Buy Costco Stock now while the stock market is in a free fall. Costco is having record sales these days. Make some money off of the stock when it gets back up. LOL In full disclosure, I am not a broker and don't play one on TV. I hope this is all past us when football season starts this fall.

Go Huskies. Looks like the wrestling team had a good season taking 3rd in the Conf. Tourney. It is a tough conference. 3 members qualified for the NCAA I think.

In theory we would need to do more than cancel a handful of sporting events or close schools to stop the spread. The virus was introduced into the US by only a handful of people who then infected 2 people and those 2 people passed it on to 2 more people. Do the math, and exponentially you have an entire population at risk in a short period of time. The containment and social distancing is an attempt to slow down the spread so as not to overwhelm the health care system and hope to buy time to create and coordinate better treatment. For historical reference, the 1918 Spanish flu killed 50 million people. They never found a cure, and the only explanation for its demise was than it ran out of victims.

This is basically just the flu. Most people who have gotten it are 100 percent recovered. The flu stinks but we are not getting rid of it any time soon

I blame STF for all this. If all this is not his fault, then it must be Rod Carey’s.

This is the smart move, even for a lightly attended event like this.

We're still at the very front end of things, so people don't get that this matters, but it does. We don't need to be having mass public events for a few weeks. Outside of CA/WA/NY/MA. It's about as "flattening the curve" as they say- reducing cases overall, and delaying the peak.

The president seems to be more concerned with keeping the number of known infected people low (so he looks better) than he is in keeping people alive. That's probably partly why the testing has been so slow to get started. As more people get tested more people will show as infected and the mortality rate should drop somewhat (but it's still around 3% now). But old people will still be at high risk.

I'm conflicted. I don't see how you're going to contain it, I think it's going to have to travel through the country. And you can't stay in your home forever.

POTUS has done a phenomenal job with this. Shutting down the china flights early was huge
