That said, he's beginning to find his way down low. With his bounce he needs to learn to stay on his feet and anticipate blocks a little better. Same problem Justin Jackson had until year 4, so I'm hopeful for Dou. But we saw this year how teams figured Vogt out from the tape. If Mamadou starts getting 20+ minutes every night they're going to attack him full stop.

He's an excellent PNR defender and very good at denying his man from getting the ball in the paint. He's also an excellent man-to-man defender in the paint.

He makes mistakes on now and then on rotations and with over-helping and leaving his man open. But he's a far better defender at the 5 than Vogt. He's not as good defending at the 4.

Vogt is the worst rated defender on the team on synergy, Mamoudou is the best. Teams aren't going to start attacking Diarra.

+1, you better back that one the heck up. You lose a lot of credibility with that. We would not have won 20 games if he was the 2nd best in any defensive category.

He's second on the team in DRTG (92.6), behind only Scott (89.1) on the season and in conference (95.1, Scott leads with 86.9). He leads the team (or at least did not long ago) in Synergy points per possession allowed. Second in Block%, Second in DRB%.

I think you guys miss that he is a great defender because his mistakes are generally pretty obvious. But when he's not making mistakes, he is playing playing great defense.

RE: Dou
Dou gets destroyed by true centers near the basket. Some games he checks in and the opposing center scores 3 of the next 4 possessions.

I do like Mamdou's defense more on the perimeter, where his energy and movement helps more. And he is getting better lately at blocking shots and getting rebounds closer to the basket.

I think you should watch him play instead of looking at the metrics. Even the coaching staff has brought this up. They spend quite a bit of time with him. Probably know a thing or two.

RE: Dou
Diarra is showing the type of player I hoped he could be when I saw his tape originally. The ability to shoot, with good size and athleticism. Still figuring some things out, but he definitely gives me a lot of hope that next season we can have a good year, along with how Keith has looked at times, especially when JC was out.

Still need some of the young guys to take a big step next season like MAW and Harvey, but I think the future is bright in a couple years.

RE: Dou
You can tell one thing he's a guy who's been in some tough situations. He very much appreciates everything he has. Nice to see someone with that trait. It's a lost perspective in these days.
