So...how does the world maintain this momentum of greatly reduced pollution and environmental impacts from filthy Chinese factories ruining the planet?
Quote:In an effort to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus, which has affected more than 80,000 and killed more than 3,000 people in China, the country has shuttered factories and quarantined many of its citizens. However, as the country's factories slowly return online from the aftermath, there has been one unexpected side effect to the decline in economic activity.
Pollution has vanished.
Satellite imagery from NASA and the European Space Agency have spotted an enormous decline in airborne pollutants, specifically nitrogen dioxide (NO2), in large areas of China, according to a statement from NASA's Earth Observatory.
And here is a snapshot of what NOx does to the planet.
The problem I see with this is the cognitive dissonance between the position that we need to do something about manufacturing and power gen and kowtowing to the Chinese. Bloomberg is exhibit 1 in this election cycle. I'm sure we've all seen Bloomberg's "green" commercials where we see a glimpse of a filthy coal fired power plant; however, we also know that Bloomberg is a staunch defender of China and wants to see the Chinese prosper - which does EXACTLY what he rails against the U.S. about with his so called green platform.
There is no doubt that the establishment Dems are not green except for token statements that at best impact us on the margins. Is the progressive wing of the Dems of like mind to the establishment regarding green politics taking a back seat to pushing Chinese interests? I'm inclined to think that the progressives hold the monopoly on idealogy in the Democratic party while the establishment Dems are all too happy to be the lapdogs to their Fortune 500 corporate overlords.
It's quite interesting to me to see all this play out. Today's establishment Dems were yesterday's Rockefeller Republicans. Today's Republicans who are aligned with Trump are yesterday's JFK Democrats. Today's "never Trumpers" are virtually identical to the establishment Dems. The Progressives - IMHO - are most like the prohibitionists of the early 20th century who are most concerned with pushing their "morally superior" beliefs on the rest of us. The weird thing is the socialist strain that we see pervading the progressive wing. Gotta tip your hat to Stalin and Kruschev for persistently pushing socialist/communist ideals thru Hollywood and the universities in the 50s and 60s. They continue to strike at America from beyond the grave.

Just my opinions on it all.
The more we push green here, while pandering to China--which is perhaps the worst polluter, and gaining, in the world--the more we hasten the continued demise of the US manufacturing economy. We'll be okay for a while--the huge breadbasket of the south and midwest pretty much ensures we won't starve--but at some point we become Venezuela, or maybe Argentina, which did the same thing 100 years ago.
If we are serious about climate change, the we need to get tough with China--and India. If they don't play ball, nothing we do really matters.
We can very likely do more to impact climate change by encouraging (forcing?) 3rd world countries and China to engage in 2000 era 'clean air and water' technology than we can in eliminating our emissions totally.

That's exactly why I ignore ANY of the climate change activists and their rantings.........they never include any China or India in their "solutions".
As long as China and India are ignored........all this stuff is no more than a proposed activist/ big government revenue play.

We aren't talking about saving the planet... the planet will be fine
My grandmother, not a learned person, after I told her the world would end said, "no son, the world remains, it's the people that come to an end."
You have a very wise Grandmother
"Had" a very wise Grandmother, she's long gone now. She's part of the earth like Carlin said we become. Another tidbit that she shared with me was about ghosts.
Her house was inhabited by ghosties, no kidding. At night it was very somber looking and spooky. Us kids if we had to go to the bathroom (which was just outside a little room next to the kitchen) would go in pairs. Anyway, my uncle who took care of her sometimes would go out and leave her all alone. She was a paraplegic because of diabetes and would sit on a wheelchair. I never questioned him because he was young and also needed to chill. So on some of those days where I would go visit her for no reason other than she was my grandma and I loved her (even though she played favorites with her other grandkids, ha, ha, a subject for a psychiatrist) anyway, when dusk was approaching you could sense an eeriness come over the house. That's when I would wisely start thinking of leaving. She would always tell me, "son, could you please turn the light on in the kitchen before you leave?" I dreaded that request but I would always comply. You probably are saying to yourself, what's so hard about turning on a light? Well, this wasn't just any ordinary light, it was a light attached to a string that would bring it to life. So here you have a dark as a moonless night room and you have to search for that string. What was really a seconds to accomplish act seemed like hours to a frightened kid. Finally, I would find it with my little fingers and turn the light on. I wouldn't even scan the kitchen I would skedaddle right out without even looking back. I would tell her that it was spooky and she would say, "son, you shouldn't be afraid of ghosts, be afraid of the living, they're the ones that can harm you". She was right but ghosts were a close second.
Sorry, for my long windedness. It's raining and I'm bored...and I'm old.
