It only "gets old" if a team doesn't win, and that's true for any coach's style.

At certain times this year W&M fans have complained about Dane Fischer not having much "fire" or personality, and he's only in his first year. Why? Because he was on a losing streak at the time.

You can win via a lot of different styles. And as long as you win, players will respond. A lot of NBA players don't always like Greg Popovich's style. And for sure, it's impacted their ability to attract big FA's (plus being a small-market org doesn't help). But he wins, so they deal with it. If he didn't, his personality would wear thin.

Yep. He strikes me as very self-aware and genuine. That's the most important aspect of a coach's personality, regardless of what TYPE of coach you are. Know thyself.

Same could be said of Belichick in the NFL. The reason players put up with his personality? He wins.

The media would destroy him if he answered questions like he does but wasn't a perennial winner.

His personality on the field and in pressers is not the same behind closed doors. It's been well documented. The media stuff is a show

They a losing record now under Burke but what I mean is over time it could wear people out with the intensity. It can and does happen in all sports. I have no idea if he is the same in practice and off the court but I would be surprised if he is different in practice. It seems like a very hard thing to turn on and off. He is a crowd favorite and I hope he can win out from here.

I really think there are worse things to worry about. I don't recall ever hearing about a coach who coached too hard and ran off players. Especially when they have the personality to equally positive and the players themselves are asking he be made HC.

In fact, I was thinking just the opposite with Burke. With new transfer rules likely on the way that would allow players one transfer opportunity without sitting at all, he seems like the type that could keep good players here and attract players on the move.

Hell has officially frozen over, I agree with you!

Mullet- There are certainly valid concerns you could point out, don't think this is one of them.

Jim Harbaugh Michigan football is one that comes to mind in the news everyday. Bobby Knight ran off players-Larry Bird. Bruiser Flint known to have players walk off the floor and never come back. It happens more than you think BUT I don't see Burke in the same light as those guys. He seems like a good dude but super intense ,ala Buzz Williams.
The new rules will be interesting for mids -I think it could be a disaster for some teams. If you look at the UNCA roster from just a few years ago they have players at Baylor,Louisville and Arizona all playing big minutes. They were all recruited away while still at Asheville for the most part.

Like him or not, Bobby Knight was still one of the greatest coaches of all time. Yes, his style ran off some players but he won championships and is the last coach to have an undefeated season.

I don't see parallels between Burke and Harbaugh or Knight either. Harbaugh is a salesman and he does a great job of selling himself; Knight is an egotistical ass from a different era. Burke and Knight couldn't be more different in my eyes.

Okauru's success should be a selling point for other P5 transfers if Burke is the guy.

So Sims is the kid he got on last night... He's also spoken on how much he cares about Jaylen's well being as a person. When he was struggling right after Burke took over, they went to the hospital together to visit some patients. Burke stated he wanted to let Jaylen realize that there are things way more important in life than basketball. Jaylen then in part was huge in our win at CofC. There is obviously a strong connection with player and coach there. Maybe he knew he could act that way with him. Burke is just a passionate guy all around on and off the court. That's much bigger plus than negative.

No doubt: two undefeated regular seasons, two final fours and an undefeated champion before he turned 36.

Current players are your best recruiting tools. Think about the job Ponder did when Keatts came in. Now, imagine the conversations these guys will have on official visits by recruits?

Sims wasn't the only player Burke got on. He also got on Jenkins. And Jenkins took it in stride.

If you win and Hofstra beats JMU, the gap between second-to-last and last will be 4 games, which will be tied for the second largest gap between second-to-last and last in CAA history. The last gap of 4 games was in 2010-2011 when W&M went 4-14 and Towson went 0-18. The biggest gap is 5 games in 2002-2003 when Hofstra went 6-12 and Towson went as 1-17. If two or more teams tied for last, I counted it as a gap of 0.

There will be no Senior Night ceremony tomorrow, as we have no Senior players or team managers.

I can’t remember a season where that’s been the case.

If the Athletic Department were creative, they would still have a "Senior Night"...maybe give Senior Citizen Discounts on beer or something. Make a promotion out of it.
