RE: Transfer Rules to Change
This would by far benefit the G5 more than the P5.

There would be many more guys looking to get on the field in the AAC than sitting in the B1G than vice versa.

You think the P5 isn't going to back channel and recruit your star players?

There isn’t really much evidence to support that.

star players on good aac teams get drafted..it would make no sense to leave .. the risk of being bench at your new school would loom to large...

look at the top teams in the aa c (top 3/4 teams) there are key players that qualify for grad transfers every year..rarely will they transfer

but as an ecu fan id be more worried....as a team trying to build itself up this rule would likely more hurt than help your specific team ..and would make it way more harder to build yourself up

Role players maybe, stars no. They don't land them.

Time will tell, I don't think this is good for G5 programs.

Name some star players G5 teams have landed from P5 teams. I am thinking of the AAC, I can't think of one.

the backups at bama and lsu aint nothing to sneeze at... Shane buechele (texas) was a "role player" before he came to smu, so was brady white (asu)..storm johnson (miami to ucf)

when i think of this rule, a specific case i think about is 5star (top 10 recruit) CB from houston, tony brown..a 3year back up at bama (his sophomore season as only on special teams)..only given real minutes as a senior...and he wasnt bad he just kept getting jumped by generational talents in recruiting (as is the case with bama).
. he isnt waiting 3 years if this rule is in place ..he started as a rookie in the nfl despite going undrafted (bcuz he only played 1 year)...he would have been a 2-3year starter somewhere else --literally anywhere else not bama (and 4 or so other schools)

It's about time that (at least a portion) of this stupid ass rule gets changed. Designed to serve the interests of those in power - they're only giving up what public relations forces them to

Exactly not star players at the time of transfer. Backups, not that says anything against their ability level, but the top players aren't leaving these teams for the G5.

You're talking about backups that became stars. I think you're cuckoo for cocoa puffs if you don't think Nate Hinton or Caleb Mills wouldn't leap at the chance to comeback to NC and play for Duke or UNC.

UNC isnt even good..

mills is a maybe..because he doesnt start..id bet real money hinton wouldnt even consider a duke or UNC offer..none
him and sampson have a almost father son relationship...sampson calls our team "hintons team" and he is "our teams heart and soul"..hinton is a true sophmore

also both had over 25+ p5 offers each..and both committed early..would have had more had they waited..they had options when they committed

Unc sucks for now, they won't next year. Thry didn't have offers from the blue bloods.

Btw draftable talents will play anywhere with the possible exception of a qb.

unlikely... itll be more of an bad team problem than good (like memphis atm)...

the grad transfer rule is out there already as a reference..rarely are star players from good teams grad transferring to big p5 (look at the overall percentage, not individual cases..its extremely tiny for those its available to)

no one wants to lose being a star of a good team to potentially go fight for a spot on a team that might not be as good as a bench player (too much risk)...good players on bad teams are the ones that tend to grad transfer..but thats true everywhere, not just p5, look at wakes qb grad transferring to Georgia

the one big negative consequence that could affect the aac: this could make losing coaches DEVASTATING...there will be mass transfers on coach firings ...and we lose coaches often

Yup. That was my first thought. My second, is that if Im building a G5 team---Im building my recruiting class as much as possible from F, RS-F. and Sophs from the portal. I will due very little HS recruiting anymore. In fact--if I can fill all 25 slots with F, RS-F, and Soph transfers---I would prefer it to signing a single HS kid.

Why? Becasue if I build a team with F, RS-F, and Soph (who have not redshirted) transfers from the portal---I get players that have already had 1-2 years in a college nutrition and training program---but they all still have at least 3 years left to play. Better yet---none of these kids Im bringing in from the portal can transfer without sitting out a year---so they are far less likely to leave after they transfer here. That means my program is likely to be more consistent, suffer fewer future transfers, and be more insulated from any "mass transfer move" after a coaching change. Additionally---by using my scholarships on transfers rather than HS freshman---Im not forced to use 25 scholarship roster slots on HS freshman who largely have little chance of contributing in the current year. Thats 23% of your 105 man summer camp roster and its almost 30% of your total scholarship slots. Remember---those kids are actually the MOST likey to leave your program after youve invested a year or two in them (and the ones with the most promise are the most likely to leave). Finally--by using the portal---Im able to instantly fill holes in my roster far more effectively with guys ready to play NOW. I can retool much quicker that way.

My feeling is---the really smart coaches---especially at the G5 level--- are going to completely change the way they recruit. I dont see this as a disaster---I just see it as something you need to properly react to.

I think you are on to something there.

The P5 programs came up with this concept. They don’t do anything that will not benefit them. That’s all you need to know. We will be a farm system and in return will get the P5 players who underperformed. That’s a bad trade.

It basically means recruiting never ends. Stud AAC Freshman has a breakout year and P5 coach reaches out to Stud AAC players High School coach to see if he is happy where he is at or maybe wants to come on over to showcase his skills at P5 school. We have seen it in Basketball but with new rules we would see elite Football players getting recruited by P5 schools as well.
The good part about the new rule is not sitting out a year and flushing some of these basketball players out of the system earlier. We have some who transfer three times and use the current system to get 6 years of free school and training out of the deal before trying to make a bad European pro league or hanging up basketball for good.

You think the P5 isn't going to back channel and recruit your star players?

No, I don't.

Do you think Ed Oliver needed to transfer to Texas to get noticed? No.

Say our top recruit for next year Evan Prater comes in and is all that. He's the second coming of Pat Mahomes. Does he automatically transfer to O$U?

I could be wrong, but I don't think so. Why would he give up all that he had going for him to see if could make it at O$U? All you'd have to tell him is that nothing's guaranteed and they ARE the school that benched Joe Burrow, for pete's sake.

This isn't as one sided as all you inferiority complexed individuals think it is.

RE: Transfer Rules to Change
Most fear seems to stem from players being developed and moving on. If they truly are “stars,” then they are likely gone after three years for the pros. Take Kenny Gainwell for example...very underecruited player, played four games and redshirted freshman year. He’s not likely to be at Memphis beyond next year. There’s a risk/reward analysis that would need to be weighed. Teams will lose some and gain some, but I don’t think it’s as cut and dried as some think. There’s just as likely (if not more) of a chance of losing players to CUSA/MAC/SBC teams for promises of playing time. Now with a coaching change all bets are off.
